that is bull. if people would just let the cops arrest them withiout a fight, stuggling, talking back to the cops and say yes sir, no sir, this would not be a problem. but if you are a criminal, you ain't got no manners anyway. you get treated the way you act, and i don't feel sorry for them..criminals

Yes. But only in a very small percentage of the population that already has a serious heart condition. People that would suffer a heart attack from a taser would also suffer a heart attack from a brisk walk around the block. It is really only a matter of time before something triggers one in their case, so they should avoid run-ins with the police as well as any other strenuous activity. I would not consider it the fault of the police for assuming that someone in that condition would not be attacking a cop (or anyone, for that matter).

My nephew died in police custody from being Tasered. He was taken to jail for an unpaid speeding ticket. When there, and being a person who'd had a nervous breakdown a month earlier, he became hysterical. They Tasered him 8 times, while shackled. This occurred in Warner Robins, Georgia, two and a half years ago.

He was 28. He had no heart condition. He had no drugs of any in his system, on autopsy.

There are over 50 cases of people dying of a heart attack, minutes after being Tasered.

I see no problem with the use of a Taser, when it's the only alternative to lethal force, but many law enforcement officers assume it isn't dangerous. They have begun using it as a handling technique which, unlike a beating, can't easily be brought up as any form of police brutality.

Some cops act the big guy as I have seen with the bullets and the tasers too. I seen an incident where a guy was asked for his name address etc at a plaza over an idiotic argument and the cop wanted to arrest him as he had no ID with him. This young guy was very polite and tried to explain the facts and the cop was very bully like and impatient, he wrestled him to the ground when he protested being cuffed. The cop whacked him 2-3 times on the back of his neck with his knee. I was watching as were several others and I said to take it easy as the kid was not resisting or anything he just protested verbally to the arrest. The violent reaction of this cop was not acceptable and when I said so he threatened to arrest me for talking to him, Quoted that I would be charged with (interference). I said he had better get the swat team then as I am not some kid or going in the car. This jerk then pulled out a taser and approached me with it and I then stepped back warning him he will get his *** kicked if it touches me and that there were all kinds of witnesses now about 26 people watching by now. He backed down and after some talking back and forth he released the young man without any reports being done..So there are some real power happy jerks in the police too. So do not say that to be compliant is the way to be, as you have the right to know why you are being detained or questioned just as I did and I am no criminal and also no sucker for this type of cop either. It is in the interest of public safety to comply with an officers request, but it is also within ( his ) own safety to be polite and to be as much of an officer to serve and protect as his duties are layed out---not to be a bully and use his authority to intimidate and bully the people that he is there to protect. If an officer feels threatened then he is within his rights to draw his weapon, be it a gun or a taser or pepperspray, but to use it as a bullying agent he needs his or her *** kicked not only by the person, but literally kicked off the police force too.

A Taser delivers an electric shock. An electric shock can stop a heart. Yes, tasers can kill, if the person being tasered has a weak heart.

yes. the heart can be stopped with just fifty millivolts. the taser delivers 50,000 volts. if the taser electrodes hit the right place on the human body, the heart will stop. it is rare, but because police don't use it just once, but many times on a suspect, the chances of permanent harm, or even death, is increased.

nicely, at the beginning, if somebody provides a deadly threat (aiming/shooting a gun at somebody, charging them with a knife, attempting to run somebody over, etc) to the police or an harmless 0.33 occasion, the police can, ought to and could use deadly rigidity to provide up that threat. If he became inebriated, that became his fault, and he's now paying the cost for his errors. If he became mentally disabled, it quite is unlucky, however the police have no way of understanding that. additionally, a mentally disabled guy or woman can kill you purely like a often guy or woman can. whilst he threatened their lives, i will assure you that each and each physique those officers have been questioning approximately became going abode to their families that nighttime. whilst it comes all the way down to you or him, you will do each and every thing on your power to be certain that it incredibly is him. Now, you asked approximately different issues the police could desire to do. -they should have and enormously much quite did yell on the suspect and tell him to provide up. needless to say, that did no longer artwork, and he persevered his attack. -they could have pepper sprayed him, yet that would purely blind him, and he could desire to nonetheless blindly cut back together with his knife and kill somebody. -they could have tried to combat him with their batons. i do no longer comprehend approximately you, yet i do no longer choose to convey a baton to a knife combat, for obvious motives. -they could have tasered him. hardly ever, people have resisted tasers, and saved on coming. The officers needed the quickest, maximum effectual thank you to provide up the suspect from killing them. Their safest and ultimate decision became to shoot him. i wish this solutions your question.

If they would just go back to hiring big dumb Irish cops that are not afraid to mix it up if need be they wouldn't need the taser. The government seems to welcome lawsuits as they play with your money not theirs and settlements usually mean big kickbacks.
