Colour blind doesn't necessarily mean Black & White. In humans it means not being able to see some colours.

Many animals see colours (you only have to look at the wide range of uses of colour in the animal and plant world to see the proof, for example for warning signals (yellow and black, red and black in wasps, caterpillars, poisonous tree frogs etc), for sexual signals (look at female chimapnzees in heat, look at male birds displaying), food signals (ripe fruit is a different coulour from unripe, flozers attract insects etc).

Lots of examples of colour used in nature, which would serve no purpose if animals saw non colours.

However, animals don't always see the same colours as us. Insects and birds for example, can see ultraviolet light.

There are some that are truly colour blind, but like the diversity of animals, there is a diversity into what and how much colour an animal can see. Some animals can even see into the Infa Red. Other animals are colour blind to certain colours. It all depends upon what type of animal.

"Keeping in mind that your cat evolved from hunters, you can understand why his sense of sight is one of his strongest. But cats are generally considered colorblind.

The retina – the nerve center at the back of the eye – contains cells called cones (responsible for converting light into color) and rods (responsible for black and white). In cats, rods greatly outnumber cones.

Theoretically, color perception is possible since the eye contains some cones, but distinguishing color isn't necessary for cats. Brightness is far more important. He can see in the dimmest of lights; his eyes can open about three times as wide as the human pupil and let in as much light as possible at the normal “hunting” times of dawn and dusk.

Because of the differences between human and cat retinas, the animals can see using one-sixth of the amount of light people need: At night, for example, objects appear six times brighter to a cat than they do to humans, which helps the animals hunt. In addition to better brightness vision, cats can also detect minute movement, which is easily missed by people - another benefit for a hunter."

Ive heard they are but I had a cat that would only play with a toy that was purple. One of those fishing pole things. They broke easy so we kept having to buy new ones. They come in yellow and green as well. But the purple one was his favorite, he would drag it around. He didnt play with the other ones. Maybe they smelled or tasted different though lol Interested in the other answers :)

Some are - some are not. Some can see more colours than we can. Some can only just tell light and dark apart. Squid, octopus and similar animals change colour to communicate and can see very minute colour changes.
