It really depends on what you are looking for in a workout. Both are great.
Elliptical is a very low resistance machine. If you have joint troubles, hop on there and go for it! the calorie counter, however, has been documented to be a little off. Go more by how you feel.
Treadmill is great for building endurance fast! If you want a little more challenge, do the treadmill and take it for a run. I think you get more muscle tone because of the impact with a treadmill.
Either way, activity is good and you can't go wrong!

I think it is a personal option, but I prefer the elliptical because I can get a really good workout, without the stress of running.
Running on a treadmill is great exercise, but it does put stress on your joints, especially your knees.
On the elliptical, it is a much less stressful workout, but you still get the cardio benefits. Most of the machines have different workouts that you can choose from so you don't get bored. I also think they are less dangerous if you don't know how to use one.

While both can burn generally the same amount of calories, the treadmill is good for your body because it requires more stability. If you have knee problems or anything like that though, the elliptical is a good choice. Good luck! :)

depends on how much of a work out you want and the stress your knees can handle. The eliptical is better for the knees because there is no pounding. The treadmill is better cardiac. I prefer the Eliptical because I can just go longer on it for the better cardiac.
