I recently went to my first Baptist mass/church with a friend because of no good Catholic churches where I live. They had a visiting pastor doing the service, and who said some things about other religions that I would view as disrespectful. Please tell me if this was just a bad experiance of Baptists or a good example of them: (he really said these things):

(referring to catholics)-"they pray to get to heaven, we pray because we are thankful we have heaven"--this was said in a derogatory manner

(referring to buddhists)-"they are worshiping an old fat dead guy!!"

As a Catholic, this is quite radical...I mean the preacher does not do this during his eulogy, at least not in my experiance. Tell me your thoughts.

I do not mean that Catholoc priests do this. In fact, I have never heard a priest talk about another religion in such a way. I have heard many believers doing so though.
This is a question of tolarance, not from me, because a am tolarant, yet curious....but from the preacher/reveand or mass general representative of other religions---should they be more tolorant than this?

I was raised Catholic, but do not practice. I am open to other religions, including Christianity.

In my opinion, any church that would criticize another isn't worth going to. Their credibility is shot with me if they have to do that. Church should be a positive experience for all. considering that both Baptists and Catholics are Christians, I find these words particularily troublesome.

I am Roman Catholic, I did not take the things you posted as derogatory. Its common at different church's to hear things like that. I have been to many church's from born again Christians to Pentecostal. I went through a stage you can say.

But what she said was true, We do pray to get to Heaven. They do pray because they are thankful they have a Heaven.

Buddhists do worship a dead fat guy. Those wouldn't have been the words I would have used. I feel that are tactless but some people do not have tact.

I would chalk this up to a learning experience more along the lines of tolerance of other religions. Hope this helps you in some way.

I grew up Catholic and my husband grew up Baptist and neither of us could agree on the other so we are now Methodist (middle-of-the-road, it is some times called). I don't think all Baptist preachers are like that, but many are, I always refer to it as Fire and Brimstone preaching, where they condemn everyone but themselves, it's not for me!
A Methodist church may be a safer bet for you, b/c if you haven't grown up in a Baptist church it can be overwhelmingly different than what you are used to and vice versa. I love my church now and would never turn back to Catholocism, but it's up to you!
MerryChristmas!

management traits for a guy and a woman could be a similar. braveness- confident, she had bucket-plenty. innovative and prescient/ strategic view- confident, even though it exchange into arguably xenophobic. Her rules in the late 80's helped the wealthy exchange into richer, the poor, poorer. Humility- i do no longer bear in mind she ever admitted any errors. concentration- confident, like an eagle yet some would say she exchange into bloody-minded. Integrity, um... She supported apartheid, did away with employees rights- (which some say is a sturdy factor), did no longer something for women folk human beings's rights, (did no longer have one female in her cabinet), even supported the Khmer Rouge, rode tough-shod over different's perspectives and, fairly for a mom, did away with loose milk to college age infants. Her rules have been in all hazard extra divisive than the different PM of her century. Is that a solid chief?

As a Christian - I worship in the Baptist church - I don't consider myself a "Baptist:" though. These really are true statements whether you choose to believe them or not. You look at them as bashing but he is just really stating facts - truly. Concerning Catholics - they don't preach salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ and there are many other aspects of catholicism that are just "tradition" and "religion". See Jesus Christ is about relationship - not religion. So I think he meant that Catholics are trying to get to Heaven their way - not God's way. Also Buddha was just a man and now dead - that is truth. He is nothing more than that. Jesus Christ is alive - resurrected by God the Father. So you see - you took it as bashing. It is not - it is truth from the Baptist's preacher - who knows the Truth of God's Word. I hope this helps.

Also listen - Real Christianity is not affiliated with a demonination - Real Christianity is affiliated with Jesus Christ and His teachings - following Christ - not the church. I pray you find the Truth - Jesus - not religion - before it is too late.

My dad used to make me go to church as a kid and I never had that experience so I would say that that is NOT typical behavior for a Baptist. It's never right to belittle or demean another person's beliefs and I can't believe this guy is allowed to preach. Shame on him!

Sadly, in my experience, it is a typical example.

Lee, you do not have to respect other religions if they are not teaching the true word of God. IF they are not teaching the true word of God, and that the only way to heaven is through accepting Jesus as your personal Savior, and repent of your sins, and inviting Jesus to live inside your heart and life... their teachings are of satan.

You cannot pray yourself into heaven, and you cannot buy your way into heaven. You must be born again as the bible tells us.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Budda is not the Almighty God. He is a man who is dead. God and Jesus are alive to this day. I am a former catholic, and I know that they never told us when I attended the catholic schools anything about salvation through acceptance of Christ our Lord. We are not to pray to mary, or confess our sins to mortal man,(a priest) man cannot absolve you of your sins, only Jesus can.

The catholic church teaches catacisim, and conformtion, and to this day, although I went thorugh all of that, I still do not know what they are. They are not in the Holy bible. They say that nuns are married to God, and that is false. Because the only marriage that will take place is going to between Jesus who is the lamb of God and the Chruch/ Christians who accepted Him as their personal savior, who is Jesus bride.

Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. (born again christians are this wife/bride).

Revelation 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

The Baptist chruch will tell you exactly what God is teaching us in His bible. In church the pastor is not supposed to be up there fearing that he is going to hurt someone's feelings with God's truth. He is up there with God's word, opening the spiritual eyes of the lost, and at the end of the service, not mass, calls up anyone who feels the knock at their heart's door for them to invite Jesus into their heart and life, becoming born again.

God sent a young man to me when I was 11 years old, on my street corner, and led me to Jesus. I prasie God for that young man, and I look forward to meeting him face to face in heaven.

I now want to pass along to you what was given freely to me on that street corner some 37 years ago, and that is this....

If you are lost and living with out Jesus as your personal Savior, and you want to invite Him into your heart and life here today, right now, if you feel Him knocking on your hearts door, just say to Him now.... Jesus, I am a sinner, and I am asking You to forgive me of my sins, and I know that you are the son of God who was crucified on the cross for my sins. I repent of my sins, and I invite You into my heart and life now. Thank You for that forgivenes and for my Salvation. In the precious name of Jesus, amen!

I pray that you did in fact accept Jesus as your personal Savior, and that you will now experience a renewed life that shall be opened up to you in accordance with God's will.

God bless you
carol
