The Adobe Reader is just, a reader. It can not write to or edit a PDF file, so you can not use it to add a password. You will have to get a PDF creating program (such as Adobe Acrobat) to be able to add a password to a document.

You need a different Adobe program - Acrobat instead of the Reader you have now. Adobe Acrobat is not cheap.

Unfortunately, Reader can't password protect, but you might put it into a password-protected ZIP file. It's pretty slick.

You can do it with WinZip or WinRAR and countless others. When you add the file to the archive, you'll see the option for password protecting it.
