religionisticness (haha) should be measured by one's devotion to God and to fellow human beings. One should live a moral, pure, and altruistic life and be full of compassion. That should be the measure for one to qualify as a leader of religion.

Depends on the demonination. Some require a Masters or PH D in Theology (Major or minor). Some don't require anything at all (Universal Life Church).

Many members of the "clery" and some Televangelists don't even have a BA from college, they just have a High School diploma and can talk Bible well enough to pass a muster for being ordained by a central office.

Technically in the US individual states could regulate and license Pastors and Ministers, but don't. They could require the applicant to take a test devised by members of the profession and that you pay a fee. Much like Doctors, Dentists, Physcholigists, Nurses and Teachers have to do. As far as I know, no state requires it AND this includes Pastorial Counsellors who do not pratise publically.

When I look at who should be an elder or decon or pastor, here is how I do it (and most Christians I know).
We look at what the Bible says are the qualifications for them (1 Timothy 3 & Titus primarily).

All pastors, elders, & deacons sin...but they are to be above reproach (lit. "no handles" in which people can grasp onto). If a pastor, elder, or deacon falls into a sinful pattern I would try to restore them, but it may mean that they are not able to hold the position they had.

BTW- I am a pastor.

Put it this way--if it's your goal to become an executive at Pepsi, you probably should be much more enthusiastic about Pepsi than Coke or RC Cola. I think it would be awfully tacky for a religious leader not to have a strong interest in what they are promoting.

It's measured by height. Or that's what Ty Webb says, anyway.

As long as you are willing to give your all to God, and as long as you are ready to serve and worship Him, you can go for it! God looks in the heart. If you have a heart that is willing to serve, then go!
