If there is already a line there and it is with BT there is no connection charge and will be connected within 24 hours of your call. However if they have taken the line to another company such as talk talk or bulldog then you will have to wait up to 2 weeks for BT to get the line back so they can reactivate it.

If you dont want to have BT then you have to contact the company that you want to have such as talk talk or bulldog.

If the people in the property have a line that is with BT but they have not contacted BT to ask them to switch it off then you will have to wait 7 days to get the line as legally they have to contact the previous owner and tell them that in 7 days you are going to be taking the line over and if they dont want that then thay have to contact BT.

The line rental on the line is £11 a month and is a 3 month min contract. So if you have been told by another service provider to call BT to activate the line so you can go to them then make them aware you will get a 3 month cancellation charge from BT and then ask them why they are not switching the line on if they want your business.

If the line is still active (has a dial tone) they can do it on the phone while you wait. There should be no charge.

If the previous account has been closed, then you may have to wait a day or so for the line to be reactivated and there will be an account setup charge (around £50).

BT has a minimum contract term - 3 months I think.

You would not normally have to pay a connection charge, unless you have been in debt with them before.

If the line is already in the flat, then connection can be within 48 hours of the order being placed.

They normally give you the phone number when you place the order.

You must make sure that the current tenant disconnects the line before you move in otherwise you might be liable to pay his/her's phone calls. You will need to pay a reconnection fee and this normally takes 3-5 working days to have the line working again.
