I wouldn't think he's caught your cold, they aren't supposed to be interchangeable between cats and humans but i guess, explain bird flu!
I would recommend taking your cat to the vet to be sure. My cat (11 year old) recently had a sort of weezing cough (which has cleared up now) and the vet looked at collapsed trachea. Sometimes if they've fallen off a fence or had an impact injury it can cause one or more of the small bones in the trachea to...well collapse. If there is mucous (spelling sorry) then its likely it is a cold/flu. I think to be sure, take him to the vet. I know they're expensive but some offer payment options to help or even if you just phone to talk to a vet about the symptoms. My cat hates the car so I know that can be traumatic for both of you.
Good luck, I hope your puddy is ok *hugs*

My cat does this also, the hacking (she has her voice). After a thorough checkup the doctor told me he believed she might have a bit of acid reflux. She usually hacks jumping up or down from somewhere.
If he doesn't have watery eyes and a runny nose and sneezing, chances are it's not an Upper Respiratory Infection. And cats can't catch a cold from humans.

It sounds like your little friend has a hair ball, which is from licking their coat, and then the hair builds up in their digestive system, so they "Hack' it up. If it seems to get worse, or if it's really worrying you, I'd suggest a trip to the vet, good luck

Cats do not catch cold from humans. At his age, it would be good to have a vet do a checkup, for peace of mind if nothing else, especially if he hasn't been since he was a kitten.

possible--not probable--does he sleep sitting up, now??? if he does, take him to the vet--it could be congestive heart failure. if the cough goes away and kitty is sleeping lying down and breathing comfortably, then probably just a cold--best to call your vet--kitty is ld enough to be developing some end-of- life problems.. best to be sure.

Maybe. Or maybe he's starting to get hairballs, or feline laryngitis. He should be all right soon. If you don't see an improvement by tomorrow, consider a vet.
Good luck!
