Did you ever try opening the "wrong" side?

Last time I did (when I was in grade school 30 years ago...) the glue was stronger on that side and the whole carton of chocolate milk shredded and mangled rather then open and allow me to drink.

They have to have a carton that is strong enough to withstand shipping, so the whole top can't be sealed with the same stuff that allows an easy "open here" experience.

They use either different amounts of glue or different types of glue on either side, making one side easier to open while the other stays more firmly closed, helping to protect the integrity of the carton during shipping.
