Age of the kids is important - are they big enough for museums - or do they need outdoor recreation to unwind after travel. I travel now with a 1,2, and 7 year old, so outdoor monuments and architecture are the best. Or interactive museums (ie the musical instrument museum in Brussels)

For april, I think Ireland, England, Scotland would be beautiful.

Paris is good anytime, not as american unfriendly as the reputation goes, and they have great transportation, and a good rail hub to visit other sites. Like a day trip to London, or Bruges which are both excellent locations.

Have fun!

Believe it or not, China is a great place to visit. Book through a Chinese travel agency and go on a tour. They are very inexpensive and the hotels are first class. People are wonderful and they seem to really like Americans. I like it much better than Mexico- safer, cleaner, friendlier and much more interesting. It is cheaper than you think.
