well, good antispyware program must do deep file scan to find all the malicious stuff; also must release updates often (as twice a week), cos new malware is created really fast. oh and also good anti-spyware should have real time protection, because sometimes spyware can get into your computer without any sign. that's my preferences, it's hard to say which antispyware is the best as it depends on what you are looking for. here's a list of 72 anti-spyware programs downloads and reviews:

you may choose one (or two(; ) that fits your needs.

You should have more than one because none of them are perfect. First, you should a software security suit like Norton or ZoneAlarm. I prefer ZoneAlarm because if also has the best firewall protection. It has antivirus software, spam filters and antispyware protection.
Windows Defender is free, takes up little memory and gives you real time protection.
Finally, AdAware by Lavasoft is generally considered to be the best at scanning an eliminating spyware that you've unknowingly downloaded.

What the Research Says
• Webroot Software Spy Sweeper
(*est. $30)
>> Where to buy
Best anti-spyware software.
In reviews, Spy Sweeper gets better detection and spyware removal rates than other anti-spyware software; in some tests, it finds, eliminates and blocks almost 100% of threats. Other reviews report a success rate of between 80% and 95%, adding that no anti-spyware can detect every threat. The user interface is clear and concise, and Spy Sweeper includes real-time scanning. While reviews say its polished interface and solid detection make it a powerful primary choice, two anti-spyware applications always work better than one. Consider supplementing Spy Sweeper with the free Ad-Aware SE Personal.

Norton is the best I know. But it sucks all your system resources and cpu usage is more will make your system almost freeze while its checking for viruses and antispy.
But you can go for McFee and keep on updating the antispyware information every year.

Don't use Norton its a ram hog.
if you would like total *free* perfection go with Ad-Aware SE Personal (anti-spywear), Spybot Search and Destroy (ant-spywear/bot), SpyWare Blaster(protection from websites with spywear), AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (anti-virus), and ZoneAlarm (firewall).
