"I don't give a d*mn" or "I couldn't care less"...I think it's a bit stronger than just "I don't care" or "I don't mind"...

"Me vale" means literally "It's worth to me..."

"Me vale" is a very special phrase since it can mean two completely opposite things: Not to care about something or actually do care about something.

'Me vale' comes from the expression "Me vale ______". When somebody doesn't care about something they mention something worthless for the blank space. When it's something important they'll use a word to describe something important.
i.e. Me vale un pepino >> This is worth a pickle. >> Which tells us that something is as worthless as a pickle.

Most of the times "Me vale" by itself means that something is worthless, but you have watch for the context since it could mean completely the opposite.

"Me vale" doesn't mean that something doesn't care you, that is "me importa un pepino" = "I don't care"
But "me vale" means that the for example the information you have is enough.
For example "ese libro me vale para hacer el trabajo" which means that the information that he books probides is enough to make the essay, with that information you can make the essay.
The translation could be "it is ok" for example "eso me vale" = "that's ok for what I need"

I don't care.
I don't mind.

Looks like worth to me but it's not.
Example: ella no te quiere más -- she doesn't love you anymore.
Me vale -- I don't mind.

Edit: This expression isn't used in all the countries where the spanish is spoken. It prevails, I think, in Mexico and Spain but latin american or spanish people can understand it very well.

Literally it means "It is of value, matters, to me". However it is generally used sarcastically meaning "It matters not to me".
