A true streptococcal infection of the throat often leads to excruciating throat pain accompanied by difficulty swallowing and even speaking. Fever may be present, and the tonsils are often covered with a whitish layer of pus. Cough and runny nose are not commonly related to strep throat, but it is possible to have a streptococcal infection along with a viral upper respiratory infection and symptoms of a cold.

I am just getting over it. I had a temp of 102-103.8. You feel weak. Sometimes rashes. Nauseau. Your throat hurts like hell. You cannot swallow and have a choking sensation. You will have swollen tonsils with lines of puss across it. Sometimes you will have a cough. If you have it believe me you will know in about three days. A sore throat is one thing, but strep is the monster of them all. The pain is so bad that you cannot sleep, eat or function normally. The doctor will take a culture, one in which the results are back in about an hour, the other in 72 hours. But when your throat was very positive like mine, one look and they know. you HAVE to get on antibiotics. It is a week now, and I am just starting to function and have been out of work tha long. Good luck

swollen glands around the throat (can be felt under the jaw)
swollen tonsils.
red, inflamed throat, usually presenting with white or yellow spots. (take a flashlight and a mirror and look down your throat)
Sore throat.
fever
if left unchecked, it can develop into a rash on the skin that causes EXTREME discomfort.
treatment is antibiotics, and the faster it is diagnosed, the faster it clears up. the longer it is left undiagnosed, the worse it gets and the longer it takes to kill all the bacteria.
strep throat CAN be fatal, if the bacteria are allowed to run rampant, so if you think you have strep, go to a doctor, for the sake of your comfort and health.

I can smell strep on my kids--it smells like a waxy crayon. Sometimes high fever and mine always threw up with strep but fequently didn't even have the sore throat.

Take a flashlight and look at the throat -- white throat means get to doctor, just slightly red just means a cold's coming.

other than that of a sore throat, you will more than likely have a fever, feel like crap, and have wihite spots on the back of your throat and tonsils (if you have tonsils). Gargling with salt water will help but you NEED to get to a doctor as you need antibiotics. Strep is serious and can lead to far more serious medical conditions. Take care!

Much the same as viral infection. Culture should be done for diagnosis.
