Thats up to you. It can be very effective or it can be very dangerous. I have been on methadone now for 5 years. I would have comitted suicide if it wasnt for it.I was , or should I say I am addicted to pills really bad. I woke up one morning and just didnt want to live. I was laying there thinking the best way to kill myself. when my little inner voice started talking. Somewhere along my path in life somebody told me about methadone. I thought it was just for strung out herion users. I asked myself that morning what was the big differenc between herion and pills. There really is no difference. So I called this treatment spot and it really did save my life. I am still on methadone and proabaly will be for the rest of my life. I had abused pills for a long long time. So Im going to say "hell yeah its effective."It saved me anyway.

As a former medical supervisor of a methadone clinic, I can say it does work well in a good percentage of addicts. They can hold jobs and not have to raise the large amount of money for illegal drugs, and they get along fine. They never get off it, though. Others take the methadone plus the narcotic or sell it for the narcotic.

I HAVE BEEN IN TREATMENT FOR ALMOST A YEAR. IT HAS HELPED ME GET MY LIFE BACK TOGETHER AND STAY AWAY FROM PRESCRIPTION PAIN PILLS - SOME PEOPLE SAY IT IS JUST A REPLACEMENT DRUG BUT I DON'T THINK IT REPLACES THE PAIN MEDICATION THAT I WAS ADDICTED TO. I KNOW IT HELPS ME BE BETTER AND MORE DEPENDABLE THAN I WAS A YEAR AGO. BUT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT WHEN IT IS TIME FOR ME TO GET OFF THE STUFF - I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS THE HARDEST HABIT TO BREAK!!
HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS YOU CAN EMAIL ME.
