First of all, when she becomes frustrated, stop. It won't do either of you any good to continue, and may even make matters worse.

With that said, my son loves to play games while we're in the car. He watches signs for words he recognizes, spells them for me, then I ask him to spell words that are similar. For instance, he might see the word "can". I'll ask him to spell pan, fan, tan, man, plan, plant, planter.....and so forth. It has really helped him to build his confidence.

I'm going through the same thing with my 5 yr old. I have found that a card game that consists of matching the word with the picture it belongs to is very helpful. Make sure to include a few words she knows very well so that she won't feel overwhelmed.

I taught my oldest to read using the "Bob Books" series, which adds new sounds with each book they read. We worked on the basic phonics and then turned the sounds into words. That worked really well for him.

My daughter seems to require a totally different approach. She already knows her basic letter sounds, but teaching her sight words and "chunking" seems to be working better to get her to put words together.

The Leap Frog Letter Factory series of DVD's is really good. They also have talking fridge magnets and a "word whammer" that are great toys for working on letter sounds and putting together short words.

With my son, it always helped to cover up the words that we weren't on yet if we were reading a book. Uncover one word at a time and remind her to sound it out, one sound at a time, and then wham them together. If he saw too many words at a time, he'd think it was too difficult to do.

Teach basic rules like "when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking" and the "bossy E" at the end of a word that is silent but makes the other vowel say it's name.

Work on common endings like "at" and work on all the words in the "At Family" together. (cat, hat, bat, sat, mat, rat, etc.) Then do other common endings. (sad, dad, mad, had, etc.) (hop, stop, mop, cop, etc.)

provide an evidence for to him that an twist of destiny could have been if he became into walking around the pool and knocked the youngster interior the water. it is no longer an twist of destiny while the little boy is below water and he's straddling him to maintain him below. you nonetheless could make him be attentive to how frightening it became into for the little boy. young ones at 5 years historic aren’t empathetic. i've got self belief unbelievable him below water could be very extreme besides the undeniable fact that according to hazard take an incredibly moist facecloth and function him placed it over his face (do no longer you do it, he should not be scared of you) and ask him how hard it is to get air in…now ask if he can anticipate how frightening it became into as quickly as for that little boy. Remind him that he became into the 'gigantic boy' and could be making confident no longer something risky happens to the infant... As punishment, I’d in maximum situations circulate without television for each week. which will could be lots for a 5 365 days historic. (or another widespread undertaking)

The best thing for teaching your five year old to read, is to buy books with/cd's. Your child will be able to follow along in the book while the cd is going. Thats how I taught my son how to read, and this method teaches them quickly.

Twice a week I write a sentence (one word to an index card) and tape it to the fridge. This gets my daughters familiar with different words and keeps it fun as a family thing. Sometimes we rearrange the words to change the sentence.
