I'm about to get a job in New York City. My kid's ages are: 16, 13, 8 and 8 (yes, they are twins). I'm looking for a nice place for them to live: friendly, safe, good schools, etc. Any hint will be greatly appreciated!

Taxes in Nassau and Westchester Counties in New York are blown out of proportions. Many folks are now choosing to live in either Queens or Brooklyn because taxes there are lower, plus you have specialty schools for bright students that are just as good as any schools on Long Island and Westchester. As far as New Jersey, I heard Fort Lee had great schools and nice neighborhoods.

Edgewater or Weehawken, NJ! Great location, great schools, tons of transportation just about everywhere. It's becoming the mecca of beautiful houses, townhomes, condos... lots of shops. I live & work nearby (born in Jersey). We offer a light-rail & ferry service. NY Waterway provides ferry services to Midtown (less than a 10min ride) & Downtown Manhattan (15min ride). If you want more info & just a bit more insight about the area, you can call Jessica @ NY Waterway or email her @ torres2@nywaterway.com.

I'm a single mom of a 2 year old - so you know it's coming from someone who understands that safety & a great neighborhood is vital & utterly important!

Hope this helps!

Good luck & best wishes!

Brooklyn is one of the best boroughs (outside of Manhattan) to check out. Great for families.
If you want to look at another great opportunity in the city, I would highly recommend Harlem. There are incredible opportunities but it won't last long. Check out the Mount Morris Park area. Tons of developement and big brownstones! Great for families.
