the treasury are constantly demanding more for less. So that means often that we do buy arms and ammunition from overseas! But bear in mind that the british are the 3 largest exporter of arms. Also we use weapons made by heckler and koch, they have taken the sa 80 and upgraded it. A german company but owned by BAE systems!!!

That the effect of liberating the markets. Its what the US is always asking for.

Who cares as long as its quality.

Most certainly it is ammo from FN Fabrique National of Herstal Belgium. F.e. the M249 SAW (aka Minimi) was invented by them. They even improved the M-16 ammo when working on the Minimi.
FN has a long lasting working relationship with Browning almost during a century.
But the US makes the same ammo. Simply the production facilities can not always cope with the demand.
No way to compare ammo from FN with something produced in China.
Whatever you can say about the Belgians, about light weapons, they are with the top (invented the FAL, Mag (fe both used by UK and more than 30 countries), Minimi (fe. US and 45 other countries), P-90 (many special forces even the TV-serie Star Gate ;-) ) , GPrevolver, .F2000, ...)

About licenses : FN makes some guns under patents of Browning but most ot of the arms where invented by themselves and produced under licenses in a lot of other countries.

You can thank President Clinton for this. As a cost saving move he scrapped all of our ammunition production capacity that was in excess of peacetime requirements.

The engine parts for the M1 tank is a similar issue. When Clinton decided not to buy any new tanks the company making the engine components offered to sell the tooling to the government. Clinton did not want to spend the money.

Clinton made himself look good but saddled us with huge expenses after he left office.

why is it scary the ammo is produced by one of the top manufactures of the world ( F.N.) . A very high standard of production is maintained and that isn't something that is always the same in the cheaper production country's around the world .

He it's the effect of the free market policy that the US always demands

For awhile our U.S. boarder patrol agents had their uniforms made in Mexico.

Many of our Military U.S. flags were made in China, which I imagine goes great at military funerals. "Here's your cheap Chinese made flag ma'am."

Not all the ammo is made outside the U.S. It's just that Iraq and Afganistan has caused the U.S. to use more ammo on average.

Probably FN. Frabria National is a large arms maker. They make alot of the western fire arms under licence. They also make the ammunition..

Many may not believe your claim but I know it to be true.
Can you guess where the M2 50. cal round are produced?
The bulk of our 223. ammo?
How about our missile guidance components?
The turbine fans for our Abrams?
Very scary.

I am certainly aware that much of our large calibre artillery ammunition is manufactured in South Africa.
