Why won't people get past the ignorance and not stereotype about Islam?

Islam really is a peaceful religion. Yes there are extermists bombing everywhere but Muslims are not like that. Don't associate Osama Bin Laden with Muslims because to us, he is no Muslim and never will be. I am not trying to promote Islam. It is your choice to accept it or shun it. I just want to speak the truth because I'm sick and tired of people insulting Islam when they don't even know anything about it. Thank you.

I honestly do feel bad for the peaceful Muslims of the world. Extremist ideologues are stealing your religion. But many of you...perhaps not you personally...have only yourselves to blame that the world lumps you all in with the radicals. Why? Because where is the public outcry against what the radical Muslims are doing? With only a few exceptions it is very absent. As a result, non-Muslims have little choice but to assume that the Muslim community supports these terrorist activities being done in the name of Allah.

If you want to change the world's perception of Islam, start changing the Muslim community's reaction to terrorism.

I understand your sentiment but we, those in the non-Muslim world, are bombarded with the truth of the matter daily. Islam has given itself an extremely bad press AND CONTINUES TO THREATEN SANITY EVERY DAY.
When one removes the possibility of there being a god at all, the whole system crashes.
Try thinking of your life in that way and stop worrying. Gain your own personal freedom and accept that any god by any name is imaginary, a concept dreamed up by man with the express purpose of gaining control by means of fear.
Grow up and reject the idea, even though you WANT to believe that it is true. Sooo. if you believe in everyword in the Qur'an then you read this and say that the base of islam is peaceful?

People stereotype and generalize about all sorts of things. It's not limited to Islam. You're simply asking too much for people to actually learn a little about what they've been taught to hate. Years back it was Jews. Then it was Communists. Now it's Muslims. This too will pass and we'll be taught to hate something else irrationally. Patience!

Ignorance. I have studied about Islam, Judaism, and Christianity and I still could study much more and not know who is right and who is wrong and even if I do, according to Jesus, I am not to judge. I am not even to judge my enemies. I am to love my enemies. Jesus did not antagonize the Romans because they were the enemies of the Jews. It's is about love and all three of these religions need to learn that. God is love.

There is stereotyping - and you are right, it is extremely unlikely that people that we think we need to be concerned about (terrorists) are going to be people we ever have contact with. It is a new form of prejudice - being advanced in many ways, and it certainly is wrong.
Like other forms of prejudice people want o be "better" than others and have an enemy - which is ignorance.
I am a Christian and I am hurt also by any mistreatment that people suffer.
