you might want to take this up with the guidance counselor/principle... you should have every right to make a prom dress... and even have the right to wear it if you like... i don't see the issue with making a prom dress for your girlfriend... you need to take this above the teacher's head - maybe have your parents call the principle about the issue... and make sure, that if you do wind up getting to make the dress, that the grade you get is unbiased for the project. when discussing the issue; however, try to be very calm and rational - think of all the angles before you show up to argue your position so you aren't left speechless - and dress-less.

OF ALL MATE, CONGRATULATIONS ON DOING A SEWING CLASSES. SOME OF THE BEST DRESS MAKERS IN THE WORLD ARE MEN. YOUR GIRLFRIEND IS LUCKY TO HAVE YOU. AS FAR AS YOUR TEACHER IS CONCERNED, IF YOU HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO ATTEND THIS CLASS, THEN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE ALLOWED TO SEW A DRESS FOR YOUR GIRLFRIEND. NOT LETTING YOU IS SEXUAL BIAS, SOMETHING I'M SURE YOUR PRINCIPAL OR THE EDUCATION SYSTEM WOULD NOT STAND FOR. IF THE DRESSES THAT THE GIRLS ARE MAKING ARE A PART OF THE ASSESSMENT FOR YOUR CLASS AND MODELLING THE DRESSES MADE IS ALSO A REQUIREMENT, BE A BIGGER MAN THAN SHE IS A WOMAN AND GET UP THERE ALONG SIDE YOUR GIRLFRIEND AND POINT OUT HOW LOVELY SHE LOOKS IN THE DRESS AND HOW WELL YOU HAVE MADE IT. GOOD LUCK!

No. It isn't fair at all. Just because you're a boy does not mean you can't sew a prom dress like the other girls. Talk to your school principal. This is a gender inequality problem!!

First of all, I know I'm not a guy but I'm gonna answer anyways. It really depends on the type of guy. But yeah a lot of guys like innocent girls, and some like dumb girls who pretend the have a brain of a 5 yr old. But most guys aren't usually attracted to the type of girl who "pretends" to be dumb and innocent for an actual relationship since I could understand that they would easily get bored with that kind of girl since she acts like she doesn't know anything. And the guys ur talking about probably only give her that kind of attention when she's around becuz they know they can easily use her and then dump her. Sooo yeah

I know the feeling. I'm a girl and I want to do drafting like the boys at first my teachers doesn't agree with me even my classmates!!!! So here's what I did, first move, I wrote letters to the editor at our school paper. Everyone still never let me! I talked to the teacher once again this time I talked to him nicely and somehow pleaded him to let me. He let me after that talked. But my classmates still doesn't want me in. So I proved to them and even to the other teachers that I can do what boys do.
To your teacher you need to talk to him/her, probably your teacher has this different view on a boy sewing prom dress. Tell your teacher nicely, that you just want to learn so that you can give something special to your mom or gf. But your teacher still insist on not having you in. Talk to your parents, or to the principal or write on your school paper or sue your teacher for being unfair! ( joke ; P). But honestly a nice talk will do ; ).

Many men are top fashion designers, who sew!You could get a list of them and lay them on her desk or you could speak to the principal or guidance counselor,it's discrimination. The first tailors were men.The first cooks were men.You have the right to sew the same thing the girls are sewing.

I don't see anything wrong with your idea. I encourage you to sew a prom dress for your girlfriend that appropriately covers her body.

That's a proper case of gender inequality !! Your teacher is sooooo wrong !! Don't wait for her to send you out of class, don't give her that power. She should be proud of having a boy in her class who want to learn the skills of sewing.
Talk to the head of your school, and tell him/her that you insist to be allowed the same teaching as the rest of your class. Also, refer to all those famous male fashion designers and find some male tailors in the phone book to prove your point.
I wish I was your girlfriend ;-)

I think that is descrimination. If every girl in your class is learning how to sew one, then you should be allowed to do it too. I think you should report this to your principal or to your parents. If she is not going to let you take part in your class assignments, how will you get marked on the curriculur standard?
