In all the branches there are safer jobs then others. Your right the Navy has less casualties then the Army and Marines. The Air Force in my opinion is safer then the Navy depending on what job you have. You have to think about how many sailors are on one ship or one sub and if just one thing goes wrong all hands could be lost. Think about being with a ton of people on a tight boat or sub for months and not being able to go anywhere. Now think of a fire starting... or look at what happened to the USS Cole. It's a great sacrifice to be join anyone of the branches and that's something that before joining you need to think about. Are you willing to give up months away from your family? Are you willing to sacrifice your life for the idea of freedom?

The Navy has it's own risks, but yeah. Pretty much.
Unless you are a corpsman working for a Marine unit, a pilot, work as a diver, SEAL, or EOD, or work on a carrier flight deck (perhaps one of the most dangerous jobs in the world) your chances of any serious harm are very low.
It's not that they're far away from the action it just the inherent low risk of the Navy period. I would recommend this branch to anyone considering joining.

You forgot that other service called the COAST GUARD which is the safest of all as they rarely deploy beyond the US borders. Even when they do it's to inspect maritime traffic not to go into combat. This is not to say that they don't see combat just that isn't what there looking for. After the coasties then the next safest is the navy unless your a corpsman they sometimes are sent out with the marines as medics.

It all depends on what job you do. Navy has the 2nd least amount of fatalities. Air Force has less than Navy. Corpsmen and seabees in the Navy have the highest chance of death. There are many Navy people in the ground in Iraq and Afgan along with the Marines and the Army. I am in the Navy myself but the Air Force is the safest branch.

Navy has some good jobs too. However I can't stand to be in the sea so I'll be joing the Amry. I would do the Marines but they don't have the Jobs like the Navy/Army dose.

Nah, safest would be in the reserve. When your in the reserve, you don't have a chance of getting killed (unless you get deployed).
I'd personally join the AF because my Dad, Uncle, and Cousin either were or are in it.

It is only safe till you are not asked to jump in the sea when you are a non-swimmer.
If afraid of dying in war, Navy, or any other force, is not a place for you.
Those who are afraid of dying in uniform mostly die during service.
