You are wrong. You are to ask for God's will in your life and not your own will. Prayer is only as good and as powerful as your faith in God's will and abilities are for you in your life. You have no faith, there for you shall not recieve what God wants you to have, unless you have an on going relationship with Him and you are in service to Him..

You are on the right track.
Prayer is useless other than as a placebo for the weAk-minded.
If prayer was of any use at all, why not get ALL the religious nutters around the world, of whatever religion, and get them to pray to their god at exactly the same time ... that should be several billion loonies expecting a miracle. Let's suggest that they all pray for something easy ... Hmmm ... that George Bush's pants burst into flames the very next time he appears in public.
OK - all prayed? Let's sit back and wait for the outcome ...
Still waiting? ...
OK, you come up with a thing to pray for. Whatever it is, it would only happen by coincidence UNLESS it was so unlikely to happen that, if it did, it would be front-page news globally. Hence the Dubya suggestion.
You get the idea?
Jesus-freaks have faith in (believe in) the power of prayer but the evidence keeps on proving them wrong. When will they get the idea? Perhaps never, as indoctrination from early childhood has nailed this idea to the mast and they dare not tear it down. Scared to. Control of the population by fear is what does it.
ATHEISM - THE ONLY LOGICAL CHOICE.

God listens only to the prayers of righteous people. For your prayers to be heard by God, you must be trying your best to live by his laws. (Proverbs 15:29; 28:9) You must be humble when you pray. (Luke 18:9-14) You need to work at what you pray for. You will thus prove that you have faith and that you really mean what you say. Only then will Jehovah answer your prayer.
"YOU do ask, and yet you do not receive, because you are asking for a wrong purpose . . . Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you." (James 4:3, 8) Those words of Jesus' disciple James may well prompt us to consider our reasons for praying.

Sometimes I just feel so embarassed for the people who thank God for helping them after a successful surgery in a hospital. If prayer worked, why would the world need doctors?

No Martin you are not right, God is not concerned with football or human pastimes, but in the salvation of souls, those who trust in God and show this by prayer can and do get their prayer answered providing that it is to Gods will and the persons well being.

God is not a Genie to do our every bidding.
I dont think that is why prayer is there.
It's also a form of worship
You can be saying thankyou for what you do have
or ask for personal strength to tackle situations
For me prayer is not about asking God to be my personal gift giver or have my football team win.

Are you serious? Football games?
I am a firm believer that prayer works. 9 years ago I had science and man tell me I would never conceive a child due to having 1 fallopian tube and 1 ovary Well regardless to what they said I kept my faith in God, I stead fast in prayer for 30 days asking God to bless me with a son, and he did for the next 8 years I prayed and asked God for my daughter, and he gave her to me. I now have my children walking talking breathing in a world that MAN said they would never be. BUT GOD SAID other wise!!!! God Bless You and prayer does work! And prayer does change things if you believe God for what it is you are praying for according to your faith you will receive it.

Prayer is not presenting a Christmas list to God.
Prayer is communion with the One who loves us with an everlasting love....
Just as two lovers learn each other's needs, wants, desires, so also we learn what God wants, how to approach Him with love, what words please Him ,etc.
sometimes God does miraculously intervene in human affairs, changing circumstances, etc.
But He does not hear our prayers if we are praying out a foolish and selfish heart.
God bless!!

Does prayer work? Hundreds of millions prayed for God to stop Hitler before he killed 30+ million during WWII. Considering the success of their efforts, God is either powerless, heartless, both, or does not exist at all.
