Sometimes if a person yawns and they open thier mouth to much, the jaw can actually get stuck in that position, dentists will call this lockjaw, since your jaw is actually locked. Go see a dentist and they can shift it back into place. It's like dislocationg your jaw.

Lockjaw is caused my tetanus. Commonly, you'll get it from a dental procedure that goes awry. My best friend got it when she got a tooth pulled, the socket got infected and filled with pus. This started a bacterial infection that culminated in her jaw seizing up. It's actually really serious because, if left untreated, it can caused death (the rest of your body will start seizing from the tetanus and eventually shut down).. As it was, my friend was in terrible pain from her jaw and drank through a straw for two weeks.

well , lock jaw in dentistry is caused by by clostridium .teteni ( tetanus infection ) , usually these clos.tetani spores happens to b in soil and enters ur body at the times of injuries or by any contamiantion during surgical procedures like following any extraction , due to tetanus all the muscles get affected with spasm , in the case of lock jaw the muscles of mastication ( chewing ) get affected as a result u feel diffculty in opening ur jaw as if ur jaw has got locked , so is known as lock jaw .
the treatment is like treating tetanus , so its better to take antitetanus shot at the instance of any injury

Has he been vaccinated? Did you see if he injured it? I'd take him to a vet asap. Could be dislocated or otherwise traumatized, but dogs can also contract tetanus, and it's not part of their vaccine regimen. It's not normal and affects the ability to eat - so it's urgent he sees a vet. If it's a dislocation, you don't want it to start healing out of socket. And if it's tetanus, he needs antibiotics. If another trauma, xrays to rule out breaks and fractures. I can't think of any reason NOT to take him in asap.

My parents used to say(when I was little) if I ran around in the barn barefooted, I'd get lockjaw from the horse manure, or if I stepped on a nail and didn't get a tetanus shot.
