My one-year-old beagle Bella has these random episodes in which she runs around in circles in our living room as fast as she can possibly go - it ususally last for a bout a minute and it happens about every other day. Is this normal? She does this for no reason!

Very common, we call it the Beagle 500. You should watch it when a half dozen Beagles start doing at the same time, all running a different pattern.

Are you taking her for at least thirty minute walks daily? She probably has a high energy level that she needs to burn off. Running around the living room may be okay for now, but I find that they usually turn to something destructive like tearing and chewing things. If you don't have that much time to walk her, you can get her on a treadmill or walk her for fifteen minutes with a weight vest/belt that contains 15-20% of her body weight to tire her out faster.

My beagle does it too, but watch out it could mean they will destroy something next, he runs through out our whole house then decides to go gnaw on the couch side afterwards, its your beagle telling you to pay attention and play with me type mood and all you can do is laugh and encourage her to keep doing that and grab a toy and join in the CRAZY DOG MOOD!!!

Yup, it's normal. My beagle will do this about every 3 days, just starts to go nuts. It's really cute, and she gets the other dogs all wriled up. As long as she's not hurting herself just enjoy the show!

Both my beagles do that--full tilt, fast as they can for a few minutes--then they go into the "beagle wheeze", and then it's all over and they flop on the couch and snore for an hour or two!

she is trying to tell you that she needs something , exercise, mental challenge something ; we love our dogs in the house but they are animals who need to do something than just cute and loving to us. she is not doing it for no reason , she has a reason, bored and in need of exercise; a beagle loves to chase , run and burn off steam; this is a hint now ; later it will be like a ton of bricks hitting you when the couch etc is destroyed; listen to her before she gives you a louder message.

All dogs have a reason for it lol. It's releasing energy.

Are you walking Bella enough? Does she get regular play time with you, you know, catching a ball and stuff? Even if you do, she'd probably do it anyway, they are just playing.

Sounds to me that the pup needs a release for all it's energy. More walks or playtime should help.

She's just burning off some energy - I love when my cat does this. When she realizes we are laughing at her, she sits down immediately and tries to look dignified.
