Practicing what you preach and proselytizing go hand in hand. It wouldn't make much sense to tell others about the right path to take and you are not setting the right example. But one of the obligation of Christians is to follow the command of Jesus to " go and make disciples" of others. Matt. 28:19. If one does not do this work, he is not Christian.

Actions speak louder than words.

Many will be moved by how you live the bible in your life. but proselytizing is a way to let people know about God.

If simply being good yourself and saying nothing is the right way to go, then Jesus could also have done this. But he did not. He went to great lengths to let us know God's ways. And these ways are for our benefit.
