first year is usually a paper gift. i have a frieng whoes husband scattered paper cut out roses all over the house which took ages and made her an amazing meal. then he gave her a scrap book of pictures from their year together and wrote how much he loved her on the inside cover. very romantic

There is a website called ediblearrangements they are flower arrangements made out of fruit, they are the same price as flowers, they deliver in all sorts of states and two countries, they are great. They also include the card and extras like balloons.
Take her out to a nice dinner (her favorite restaurant) or to a comedy show (make reservations).

A book. It could be part of the present too, e.g. buy a printer{not in this case maybe-not romantic}but if you did, you could put the paper with it.

I think it's best to stay simple-take her out to dinner and give her card.
Paper also could be in the form of concert'theatre tickets or an airline ticket!

Have you ever heard of iMemoryBook?

My roommate is getting married this month and he is creating a wedding memory book for his fiance right now. He wrote his story of how they met and how they got engaged, then she wrote her story. Then Justin (my roommate) invited me, and all of his family and her family to the book to write their favorite memories about the two of them. When he is done, iMemoryBook will ship them a hardbound color copy of the wedding memory book.

You should gather up all your photos. Get your wife to write her side of the story (she will never expect) and then give her a wedding memory book. It is paper, but not cheap or stupid.

Good luck

My suggestion is give her one red rose on your first anniversary, two on the second and so on. If all goes well she should end up with a big bunch. If not how about a book on origami? I think I would prefer a rose.
Congrats on your first year. Hope you have many more.

A painting would be nice. Or even a wall mounting of some wedding photos!

My friend did this......
Wrote out his wedding vows on hand made paper and had them framed.
He also bought jewellery but his wife loved the other papaer gift more and placed it on the wall for all to see.
Congrats to you both, i'm sure whatever you choose she will love it.

How about a beautiful photo album, so she (and you) can compile a record of the first year of your married life together.
