Thanks for the responses so far. I do have a broadcasting degree, so I'm very aware of the production side. I also have a very good idea about the product I wish to market. What I'm unsure about is everything that goes on the business side of the project. I'm not sure where to begin my research, so even just pointing me in the right direction would be great! Thanks!

Dan Kennedy is the guru behind winners like Guthy Renker and ProActiv. He's incredibly expensive to hire, but if you read the back issues of his No BS Marketing Letter he talks quite a bit about the business.

Infomercials are big business and quite expensive when you consider the professional services involved: script writers, actors, endorsements, camera crew, etc. It would appear that they are profitable although I have personally never bought from one. Make sure to check out the reputation of the infomercial company you work with. There are many shady ones as "Dateline" recently exposed. Your intentions could either make you a great deal of money or lose a great deal of money so make sure you have the budget and a team of experienced professionals backing you.

You could start by researching infomercial producers like Guthy-Rekner (http://www.guthy-renker.com), or watch a few and see what types of products are being pitched.
