I HAVE to quit smoking!!! I would love to hear from people exactly how they have done it. I am a pack and a half a day smoker. The longest I have made it is four hours without a cigarette. I've tried cold turkey with NO success!!! Please send me suggestions about what worked for you. No links please. I've already been there. I would really just love to hear personal experience!!! Thanks so much!!!!!

I quit using the patch. Start with the highest step and follow the instructions. Don't jump down to the next step until you are ready. The hardest part of quitting is mental. You need to find something to do with your hands. Take up a hobby that requires your hands. I don't know of anyone who quit successfully going cold turkey. Carry some sugar free hard candy...chew on those..gum, etc. change your routine a little. if you always drank coffee in the am with a cig, switch to orange juice. avoid bars, drinking, ask friends who smoke not to smoke around you. Bottom line is, you have to have the willpower to quit. sure there will be times where you will cheat and cave in to the craving. Don't kick yourself, just remind yourself that you are quitting and start over again. Take it one day at a time. If you tell yourself, just get thru today...you'll find you can do it. When you feel like you just have to have one and nothing else will do, go take a walk or work out..exercise will kill the craving. Good luck!!

I quit a 5 pack a day habit after smoking about 55 years
enough experience ??

I tried 5 times, Spend almost $500 on Drs and Aids

My way

The first week I kept my smokes at the other end of the house and recorded how often I lit one up.

I made my self go just and extra 5 min between smokes til I got down to 1/2 pack a day Do this at weekly increments, 3 days isn't enough.

At that point the nicotine inhalers help finish the job.

Having some Ativan (Anti Anxiety) for Nic fits was a big help

When I quit smoking I cut back a little at a time so the withdrawal wouldn't be as bad. I cut out one cigarette a day for the first few days and then cut another out after a week and so on...it took a couple months to get down to only a half a pack a day..then I quit "cold turkey" after I had gotten down to less then 10 a day. It took me two or three months but I did it and haven't started up again after 12 years. Good Luck.

Well I wish you luck. I've heard that nicotine is more addictive than heroin!! I gave up three years ago by getting pneumonia. I was ill for three weeks and by the time I got home from hospital most of the cravings were gone. I still had a problem when I was on the phone or reading/doing puzzles. I lit a smoke before I rang someone on the phone. After I'd stopped I used to have a soft drink or a cuppa handy to do the hand to mouth action. Also had a pad and pencil to keep my hands busy. Doing puzzles etc I had low fat snacks to munch on. Have you tries lozenges or patches. Sometimes they help. Best of luck and if you fail just try again!!! The longer you go without a smoke the easier it gets. I used to think that smoking would be on my mind all the time but it's not.

Well I did quit cold turkey, but only after along time of thinking about it, it just seemed that everywhere I looked was a commercial or poster or ad or whatever telling me how bad it is, at the time my hubby was working out on a regular basis so after just so many ads i got fed up and said to him why bother when you will die in ten years from smoking. So why watch your weight, eat right, work out when you are slowly killing your insides. So with that we quit, one night we smoked all the cigs we had and said the next day was it, we havent looked back since. Remember the money you will save!!!, nevermind your health. I hope I helped

What worked for me was to sit down and write myself a short note telling myself why I wanted to quit, and why it was important, to me, to quit. I carried it with me in my wallet, still do as a matter of fact. I've been smoke free for a couple of years, but quite honestly, not a day goes by that I don't have a craving for a puff. Especially when drinking coffee. Anyway, I still pull out my tattered note occasionally and read it to myself, helps me to get by. I hope you find something that works for you....
And remember a smokers motto, "quiting is easy, I've done it thousands of times". Let the next time be your last....Good luck!

Join the Navy. They'll make you quit. Serious advice now. Avoid alcohol, anything sweet, thins that'll wet a smokers appetite. Look at pictures of cancer ridden lungs and emphesyma patients.
