When this happened to me, the docs diagnosed it as prostatitus. They treated me with bactrim and it cleared up.

Hello:
This hopefully will answer your question and alleviate some of your concerns and fears.
There are many reasons why you may see blood in your semen.
The most common is "rough" sex. This can cause micro-tears in the urethra (the tube that connects to the outside. Rough masturbation or squeezing the penis too hard can cause it.
I have seen quite a few patients in my office complaining of the same thing. In fact, a good majority of men will see blood in their semen at least once in their lives.
It all depends on the age as to what the differential diagnosis could be.
Infections anywhere in the genito-urinary tract can present with blood in the semen.
Is the blood you are seeing "specks", "strings" of blood or actual large drops of blood. These are all important in figuring out what the cause is.
Prostatitis, an infection in the prostate gland can cause blood in the semen.
Trauma, ie. getting "racked" or kicked in the testicles or groin can present with blood too.
Now as you get older, you start to worry about more ominous things such as cancer of the genito-urinary tract.
I dont know how old you are. That makes a big difference.
If you have seen a little blood only once, it is probably nothing to really worry about, however, if you see it more than once, get to your physician immediately so he/she can begin a "work-up" to figure out where and why there is blood in the semen.
I hope this helped answer your question.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

Sounds like you have an infection...either an urinary tract infection or an std...there could be another explanation but that would best be determined by your doctor.
