I am very sad to learn that there are girls younger then my husband's little sister who are on the battlefield in Iraq and dying. I am not military intelligent, but I think it is wrong to put girls and women on the battlefield. Shouldn't it be the men's place to fight our wars? Are they not made and built better for battle? I am not bias in any way, I just think war is something nations should use the men for in battle. We always did this before. I just think it is HORRIFYING that girls and women should be fighting the war, too. Who is with me on this?

I think you all are getting a misconception of what I am saying. In the first place, the Unitted States is FAR LARGER and FAR MORE POPULATED then Iraq could ever dream of, so to say that our military service, even if they were all men, will go extinct in this war is irrelevant. We are not being invaded by China here on our own land. If that were the case, I would see your point, but that is NOT the case. I am NOT saying that women should not be in the military. I am happy alot of them are:) What I am saying is that there are just some things that men are better at and better for, and there are some things women are better at and better for. As far as actual combat on the battlefields, I just thought it would be better if the men did that. Maybe I have the wrong impression, but that is how I feel....I have that FREE right:)

It's not like anyone is making them--THEY are the ones who signed up to be in the military. Instead of ranting about how you think it's wrong women are over there fighting, why don't you show some appreciation for them.

AAAaaarrghh!!!!

This is truly frightening. You do women a huge injustice here. Women are just as capable of men to pick up a gun and run from mortar. Historically, (not recent history, but ancient history) women have fought alongside men, sometimes proving more powerful in battle than men, sometimes not.

I, personally, would not fight in a war, because I don't believe in war. It makes no sense and all the decisions end up being made at the conference tables in the end.

You should be ashamed of yourself. How dare you, a woman, question the equality of other women? Women like you are the reason that we are still fighting for control over our own bodies, don't earn equal pay and don't have equal representation in our elected government. Be proud to a woman, don't hide behind a man and expect him to protect you. Stand up for yourself, and all the other women in the world.

"but I think it is wrong to put girls and women on the battlefield. Shouldn't it be the men's place to fight our wars? "

No. Women want to be created equal. Part of that is to be up to equal standards in the workplace, to which includes military.

If woman were not allowed for Iraq, then females would not be allowed for fireman, law enforcement or even to the point in holding election office for President.

I know some females are extremely strong, intelligent and defiantly can shoot just as good, if not better than a male.

I for one would want to go to Iraq, as I planned when I joined the military. However, an unknown heart condition lead me to not get to have that opportunity.

However, my fiance is going to Iraq for second time and he supports female in military. He just hates the double hypocrisy that females want to be created equal but don't want the equal responsibility.

You are making a generalization implying that women are weaker than men. You think their place is in the kitchen, or raising kids? It is their choice if they want to be in the military. Some women can be tougher than some men. Really though, I think they all should get out of Iraq, men and women. Enough already with the war. It is sad that so many innocent people are dying.

Well, I don't think anyone should be on the battlefield. That being said, women have the same abilities as men in battle--with the possible exception of certain strength requirements.

Here's a quote from an interesting article (cited below) from a woman in Iraq:

Unfortunately, there’s a huge grey area when it comes to defining combat here in Iraq. Every person, down to the desk jockey, paper pushers in the offices, is in danger of being hit by a mortar at any time. Any person who leaves camp is in danger of being hit by small arms, RPGs and car bombs. These things are indiscriminate. The insurgents don’t care if they are shooting at a female or male, as long as they kill somebody.

What? We have a draft again? When did that happen??

Come on. Women are equal with men, and they are signing up for it. Did you know that women actually make better snipers than men? If a woman doesn't believe she belongs on the battlefield, she does not belong in the military. That is why our military is VOLUNTEER. And if there is ever a draft again -- we should all be strong enough to fight for our freedom.

I am going to assume that you are an American, that will make this point so much more relevant.

You live in a country that was founded on democracy and touts it left right and centre for all the world to see and to hear.

The rattling of the American sabre and the roar of the military machine is heard all over the globe (AND I have NO problem with that).

YOUR democracy is based on the fact that people, young and old, are willing to FIGHT so you HAVE THE RIGHT to voice your opinions.

The fact that some women have chosen to take up the gauntlet to fight for that freedom should make you PROUD.

You have your right to your opinion, but remember it is the people who died on battlefields all over this planet that gave you that right. AND if that right means that some women have CHOSEN to fight for that great country of yours, so be it.

Well, if fighting on the battlefield is the "man's place", what do you think a woman's place is? I hope your answer's not "the kitchen." It wasn't that long ago that we weren't even allowed to serve in the armed forces. Now that we have these rights, we need to take advantage of them. I'm against the war in Iraq, but if we're going to be fighting, we can't be using men for pawns. Both genders are in this together.

NOBODY should be in Iraq right now. We are not wanted there.

To answer your question, I disagree. Women join the Army, Marines, etc. so that they can join the men and fight too. Why shouldn't they?
Women have been fighting in wars for years since before we were born.
Yes, war is horrifying, but you have to face reality. If we attack a country and get involved in a war with them, then both sexes should fight if they join the armed forces. It is what the armed forces do and they (the people who join) expect that.

I think that you're very, very wrong. First off - men are not 'made and built for battle' ... men are 'made and built' to impress females so that they can pass on their genes. I despise it when people apply a moral value to gender. This is, IMO, a moronic assertion. Why is it more 'HORRIFYING' for capable girls and women to be in battle than it is for capable boys and men? Men are husbands and sons and uncles and friends - not meaningless chattle put on the earth to protect women and children. Get a grip on reality. It's obvious that you have no respect at all for men or women....

I am a firm believer in feminism which is really about a woman's right to go and do whatever she chooses. It could be raising a family, becoming a lawyer, or fighting in a war. My sister has become a marine and while I am anti-war (especially this one) and very worried about her all the time this is her choice. I'm glad she was allowed to make the choice that's right for her. So yea, I disagree wholeheartedly.
