Why are you applying for s.s.i. when you could be eligible for social security disability?
Have you applied, If not do so even if social security says that you are not eligible, file anyway, You can retain a disability lawyer when and if disability shoots you down.
Most lawyers require that you be denied disability benefits once before they will take your case but it pays to shop around, there might be one that will help you file.
Best to get the ball rolling as soon as possible, in the meantime you can go to your local social services office ( welfare) and see if they can help you out with some food stamps or any other items.
There are other places you can go to for help, salvation army, united way, and there must be some local programs that you should be able to qualify for.
Now is not the time to be too proud to accept a helping hand, If things work out you can always make a donation to the agency that helped. Check with your local church too.
