.....on a scale of heart problems? I know like Hypoplastic left heart is really bad and long QT syndrome is really bad, my thought is that what he has is on the lower end of severity for heart abnormalities.....is it?

If you give me more specific information at johnerussomd@jhu.edu I will be happy to given you a detailed answer. I assume that this was detected 1st by hearing a murmur and then by echocardiography. Although aortic stenosis is not as bad as hypoplastic left ventricle the presence of aortic stenosis is a concern in a young person as it may progress and lead to progressive damage of the heart. Please let me know if you have more information as I would like to be of assistance.

it depends on the degree of the stenosis.
surgery is indicated if the surface area of the valave is less than 1 cm.
wit the associated aortic leak, I expect he will need surgery sometime because he may have what is called ( Bicuspid aortic valve)(usual valve is Tricuspid)
