I was just recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes myself. I tested at 280 in Dr.'s office on November 1. Within 10 days, I was down to 100 - 110 am fasting. It will take more than a couple of days to see a significant change, but you should be moving in the right direction if you are following doctor's advice.
This is what I did: 1. Taking medication (metformin). 2. Eliminated sugar from my diet - switched to diet soft drinks, use Splenda in my coffee, no sugary snacks. 3. Have been sticking to a 1500 calorie a day diet - eating carrot & celery sticks instead of chips & such. 4. Have been doing moderate exercise 30 minutes a day minimum. I've lost 15 pounds over the past month.
I realized I had to change my life to save my life. It is difficult to change our long standing eating habits & lifestyle. Staying alive & healthy for my family is my motivation. Hopefully, you can find the motivation you need.

Do not eat anything white. No sugar, bread, potatoes. No cokes. Drink plenty of water, eat several small meals a day, instead of one or two big ones. Take your meds. Then if you can't get it down any further, go back to your doctor. When you are first diagnosed, it's kind of like a crap shoot. The doctors will try you on different meds until they have the right one or combination of them. Not eating is just as bad as eating the wrong things. But, tell your doctor what your levels are now, and keep him up to date on them. Remember, when a diabetic feels great, it usually means that their sugar is up. When your sugars start to come down, you will feel bad for a while, until your body re-adjusts. Good Luck!!!

Low carb diets like Kimkins (fast weight loss) or South Beach (slower weight loss) are ideal for diabetics.
You should investigate several and find one you can live with. Kimkins is a strict program with fast weight results, but it's hard for men to stick with. You might like South Beach which is easier, but with slower weight loss.

You need a better Doctor. One who is defiantly an endocrinologist and will empower you with the do's
and don'ts of caring for yourself.
Read all the diabetic magazings you can and get to a dietitian.

Hopefully you are on insulin, if not you need to be. Strict diet and plenty of exercise with lots of water. No sugars

cut your carbs...no bread read all packages of food. .... Plenty of good diabetic cook books in library
