My Husband is on these same meds. It is a challenge. He does his very best when eating almost NO starches. If you cut out the white and wheat starches (potatoes, all breads and flour products, rice, of course pasta as it is made with flour).

Interestingly enough when you stop these you will eat very little butter.

We do walk one to two miles each evening.

We have been bad since the week before Thanksgiving and are looking and feeling a little blimpy. But we will be good again for three weeks, till Christmas and new years.

Read your side effects, you will probably find it is the meds causing a lot of the problem.

Are you using lemon in water every day? It contributes to leveling your blood sugars. We also drink diluted Cranberry concentrate from the health food store. One pint is $17.00 and makes two gallons with water. We drink 6 oz before and between every meal to flush poisons out of our systems. It is quite effective.

This is from THE FAT FLUSH PLAN It is a quite effective weight plan.

Going very light on meats will help your triglicerides emormously and lower the three month test. Cutting out all pork made a huge difference.

Good luck.

Diabetes itself is often related to an increase in weight although it is true that many diabetic medications such as the ones you are taking have been associated with weight gain as well. The problem is that it is not known whether this is cause and effect meaning is the weight gain directly caused by the medication or is it caused by improvements in glucose. Losing weight is another question entirely and it is difficult. The goal is not weight per se but rather body mass index - weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared with a goal of 25 or less. If you doctor does not help find another doctor.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Insulin (metformin, etc) usage results in your body not being able to lose weight as quickly/easily. Avandia could also cause water weight gain (your body retains water). If you are taking other meds that could cause some same issues.

You need to watch your diet, drink plenty of water, and exercise to work off the calories/fat that you take in during the day.

With my physician's approval, I joined 24hr Fitness and obtained a trainer. Within the first 4 weeks, with low impact/stretching and cardio workout, I lost 4.4% body fat. I work out 2x per week, 90 mins each time, with the trainer. I go in 1x per week on my own and do a 30 mins cardio workout on the stationary bike.

My insulin usage also dropped because I was burning off carbs (sugars) with the cardio workout.

You may also want to look into what you eat in your diet. As a diabetic you have to be careful with carbs -- but remember that all carbs have different metabolizing rates: rice and pasta take longer to metabolize than potato or oats. You need to balance your caloric/carb intake with whatever exercise you do.

If your doctor is not answering your questions, seek another opinion. I am diabetic and have gone through at least 3 endo's looking for one that is willing to explain things to me rather than just give me meds and tell me how to take insulin shots.

You may also ask to visit a nutritionist or take a class on nutrition. Watching your diet also means you eat proteins and carbs at the right amounts together, limiting fat and sodium intake.

The metformin should actually help you to lose some water weight. Ask your doctor if there is a diabetic group in your area. They have them all over and they can teach you how to handle you diabetes as well as your weight gain. Do not settle for no.

I also gained a LOT of weight while on that combination of drugs. My endocrinologist changed my meds to Byetta. My blood sugar is controlled now and I have lost 35 pounds. Weight loss is a common side effect of this medication. It is an injection, NOT INSULIN, but totally worth having to stick yourself.

I heard yesterday on Oprah that Insulin causes weight gain. I am sure that you can look up the side effects on a website like webmd.
