A lot depends on your personal reaction to tobacco.

Some 30 years ago the opinion of pulmonary researchers was that cigars were safer than cigarettes because most of the damage to the lungs of the smoker came from the tar and heat of the burning paper. Back them we knew that tobacco was addictive and patients who just couldn't quit were encouraged to smoke a pipe or cigars. The potential lung damage was less.

We also knew that smoking tended to disable the natural cleaning mechanism of the lungs. If the smoking was rare the damage was reversible but some damage was inevitable. On the other hand back then air pollution in major cities was often reported in equivalence packs (of cigarettes) per day. Haven't heard that one lately have you. At the equivalent of two packs a day you couldn't see the air.

Point here is just breathing is fatal in most metropolitan areas.

The other danger of smoking cigars is someone who hates the smell of the d--n thing might hit you over the head with a croquette mallet. :)

If you simply must smoke cigars are safer than cigarettes. However do not drink beer while smoking.

Smoking disables the lungs ability to clean itself for at least a while and beer increases mucus production. Together they are a double whammy.

My guess is that ONE cigar or ONE pipe full of tobacco per day, you could not live long enough to see an effect (Like when smoking first started.) A pipefull/cigar on the veranda after dinner.

Of course it's not good for you, but I don't think it will be any where near as unhealthy for you as smoking a pack of cigarettes every day would be. If you are worried about long cancer, then just don't smoke cigars. The less you do it, the better off you will be.

any form of smoking cause negative effects on your health particularily your lungs. You are just delaying it but smoking every 3 months but in essence you're still smoking! The tar from the cigar coats the lining in your lungs (the mucociliary escalator) this will eventually become ineffective but i wouldnt worry bout it for you cos it will probably take botu 30-40 years to cause damage depending (but its very individual and it depends on how your body copes).

just don't smoke you get enough from your enviroment anyway!!!!!!!!

If you inhale it. Since you can never get completely away from the smoke, it won't do you any favors. A cigar is simply a giant cigarette without paper wrapping, after all. However, such infrequent bouts aren't likely to do much harm unless you're genetically pre-disposed to have a high risk for such things as heart disease, stroke, or cancer.

I seriously doubt it - we inhale so much smog and pollution just walking down the street - what can one cigar in three months do?

hmmm....

Well, I've quit cold turkey for two years and never lit up a cigarette after that.

But if you still want to smoke a cigar...your choice.

Peace.
