Blood supply going to the brain, is blocked mainly at the carotid arterery and in some cases the capillaries because of cholestrol or other deposits. Brain starves for oxygen and the cells die. This can happen in a matter of minutes.

It can affect the functions of certain parts of the body, depending on which cells die.

In extreme cases, thrombosis leads to death because the blockage is so severe that the artery bursts, spills blood and the person meets with death.

It is caused by, among many things: high sodium intake, smoking, high cholestrol, stress (the biggest reason by far) and to some extent, hereditary. Early diagnosis can prevent strokes.

a stroke is where you have blood vessels - big or small break and start bleeding in the brain. If you have high blood pressure this is one of the major causes of it. If your family has a family history of strokes the genetics in your family may be a second cause of it.

People who get terribly upset and have a very high spike in their blood pressure may literally blow a whole in a blood vessels.

Some time migraines head aches may be a symptom of a stroke also. Hope this helps

Strokes can be caused by any number of factors. These include, stress, high blood pressure, high cholesteral (I think), drugs and alchohol, as well as just regular smoking can increase your risk. Family history is also a big factor. Blood clots are a common cause as well.
