I had a pre op evaluation today to prepare for a hernia operation, the doctor I saw is concerned about an irregular heartbeat that I have been being treated for for the past 10 months. He asked that I double my med, which is Verapimil SR 120mg. One in the
morning and one in the evening. 240mg sounds like an awful lot to me. I have a call in to my regular doctor, but while I'm waiting I would like input. I am not in the habit of doubting medical opinions, it's just that my regular doctor is very diligent in discussing everything with me and I thought we were making progress.

That is still within the recommended dosage(for an adult). However, it is on the higher end.

What other medications are you taking?

edit as of 8:19pm est:
what dose of Lovastatin are you on?

These are somethings that you need to immediately cut out of your diet. NO MORE WHITE SUGAR OR TABLE SALT. NO DIET, LOW FAT, practically anything that has things added to it. Table sugar is a poison, that wreaks havoc not only on your liver but on your blood and your heart. Sugarcane itself is awhole food when consumed raw or in its organically brownish state. When sugar is destroyed by refining it becomes a chemical. ANYONE WHO EATS WHITE TABLE SUGAR will see an immediate rise in blood pressure. TABLE SALT IS WORSE. Sea salt from the ocean is radioactive and actually helps the body disperse nutrients, it actually lowers blood pressure and balances the body since its alkaline forming. WHITE NACL is manufactured and is DEADLY. ITS NOT REAL. When you consume this it immediate sends your heart into a whirlwind. WHY because this electrolyte is false, and your heart cannot use this the way it would use natural salts found in foods and from the sea. When you consume these on a regular basis, or consume artificial sugar products-splenda, equal, sweet and low, you are damaging your bodys chemical signals and poisioning your body. there have been countless studies about the effects on the heart and deaths from these things. Your arteries harden because of the stress that is being put on them, these chemicals cause nutrients to be deposited into the arteries causeing plaque and high cholesterol. IF you eat only fruits and vegetables for a week to start you will see your bp drop TREMENDOUSLY. Braggs apple cider vinegar (2tbls /5 times a day in water) will clear up your arteries, soften your veins and promotes heart health. IT even regulates blood pressure, along with garlic. Definately find a new doctor, because throwing up isnt NORMAL AT ALL ANYTIME

That is an appropriate dose, and well below the maximum dose for that med. What was your blood pressure? I would check your pressure at home to see if it becomes too low. Keep a log so your doctor will be better able to adjust it. Are you taking any other meds for your atrial fibrillation, if that's what you have?

You dose for today is fine. The new doc obviously wanst to try to get better control of your irregular heatbeat BEFORE he does surgery. Just an FYI but I am sure he is forwarding all of this info over to your regular docs office.
