I am registered as a Distributor with Jerky Direct, and am currently evaluating "methods" of acquiring customers.
Jerky Direct is a network marketing company. And even though I intend to promote the program the way it is designed to work, I also intend to work as a salesman.
My basic plan is to FIND PEOPLE WHO LIKE BEEF JERKY and ENROLL THEM INTO JERKY DIRECT'S MONTHLY AUTO-SHIP PROGRAM.
I am NOT concerned about getting my customers to "do network marketing." My only concern is whether or not they are willing to spend $12 per month buying beef jerky (from me through Jerky Direct's auto-ship program).
For $12 per month, my customers will get two bags of jerky. FREE SHIPPING. Ability to buy additional bags of jerky at "Distributor Pricing." A website. And, opportunity to earn money by selling beef jerky and/or by referring people to Jerky Direct.

I would not pay 12 bucks a month for jerky. To me it seems like an item that is good but only in small quantities. I cannot imagine eating more than 1/4lb a year. That is my opinion.
So, assuming that you are looking to sell this to make some good money, have you considered the time factor it will take to make money. I think you might be surprised how little pay you get per hour when you break it down.
Consider, at $12/month/customer, even at 30% commission, you will need 1000 customers to even make $3000 a month. With something like beef jerky, you are not going to have a stable customer base since people will inevitably choose to stop ordering it. But even assuming you had 100% of your customers continually ordering forever and you were receiving 30% commission...what will it take for you to find 1000 customers?
My guess is that it is a solid years effort of sales that would be needed (and that may be modest) since its a product not high in demand. So, are you willing to work an entire year merely to build a $3000/month income that is also based on the future of the parent company. I realize the residual effect of it sounds exciting but I have been in sales all my life and I can tell you that with products that are not in high demand (such as jerky) maintaining your customer base is a full time job (thus negating the residual effect). That is a lot of hours for not a lot of money if you are really a good salesperson.
There are countless ways to make some big money doing sales, so if you are a good salesperson (if you are capable of selling 1000 customers on beef jerky you must be) then you should look at other avenues. Even listing agents who sell only houses make several times more than that just showing houses which is far easier than selling beef jerky. $3,000/month in income is merely on par with what a base telemarketer would make (if that), so you should really consider heavily, is the hard work of selling beef jerky really worth your time? What is your time worth?
But alas, all this is merely my opinion on the subject and if you are truly enthused about selling it then go for it. Maybe you want just a few extra bucks, maybe your commision payout is much higher, maybe you know of a beef jerky market we are not aware of, or maybe you just become your own best customer.
Whatever the case, best of luck. Hope this helps.

Are you talking door to door sales, cold calls, or something else?
The flavors you mention are all big sellers.
Have you made a commitment to these guys yet or are you still in the evaluation stages?
Why not give me a call sometime (evening) and we can talk about this opportunity that you are evaluating in detail?

Silica gel is not really a poison. It is a dessicant placed in the package to make sure that the dried meat of your jerky doesn't get spoiled by moisture. Unless you eat enough of it to conglomerate and cause an obstruction in your bowel, I wouldn't expect it to cause you any other problems....well, other than tasting bad.

I like beef jerky, but I don't think I'd trust the food safety of jerky sold door-to-door. I'll just buy mine at the store, thank you. :)

I wouldnt purchase any food item sold door-to-door unless it was a little kid selling candy for his grade school.
Sorry. I'm kinda funny that way...
But I do like jerky, all kinds--and would buy it if it was sold on a really cool jerky-licious website.

I would buy none because I think nowadays it's too weird to have a stranger knocking on your door. I would think you were casing my house to rob it or something.
Sorry.
But if you set up on the corner I would buy Teriyaki or Hickory smoked.
