You could give them a pointsetta with some fresh cookies around it and a classic christmas movie you could all watch together. You could even throw in a nice christmas drink mix or hot cocoa recipe in a jar ready to be made. And for the kids go and get a bunch of movies, popcorn, and candy and give them the makings for a movie night! Thats always fun. Don't go for gift cards unless you are really desperate or they go with a gift you are giving.

Pick a theme. Since you don't know them well don't give them anything personal. The gifts should be conservative, something they will use, and moderately priced. Pick out a best seller or two from the New York Times Booklist, a reading light that attaches to the books, a couple of handmade (by you) book marks, and that should be lovely. Mayby toss in a couple popcorn bags and some candy or other munchies too.
And, there is no reason why you couldn't carry that theme through with his siblings too, books or game cartridges and sour candy or popcorn.
You sound like you really care so that will come through. His parents will love you.

I love to do themed baskets. like movies, You can give them a dvd, some popcorn, other movie snacks, a warm blanket and anything else you can think of. Or maybe some cookie dough mix, hot cocoa and tea and a couple of pairs of nice warm socks and a gift card for pizza deliverly. So they can spend a nice evening at home as a family. Maybe include a board game. Anything you put together yourself instead of just buying a gift basket will seem much more special. Ask your boy friend for some good ideas. Be creative, it doesn't take much effort to make a gift truly special.

Give them a christmas movie gift basket for the whole family.
One or two family christmas movies, you can go for the classics like It's a wonderful life, or something more modern like Jack Frost.
You can add other items like:
Individual popcorn bowls
Gourmet popcorn (or microwave if you can't find gourmet)
Different Flavored popcorn salts
Carmel Corn
Festive Napkins
Peanuts
M & M's
Red Vines
Sparkling Cider for the kids, wine for them
A fleece blanket to snuggle in
Anything you can think of that reminds you of the movies
You can put it all in a big popcorn bowl.
Hope that helps!

A basket of different (homemade) sweet breads, some jams and jellies, a variety of crackers, a few kinds of cheese. Sprinkle in some classic Christmas mint candies or small candy canes. Line the basket with a couple of new linen (or terry) dish towels. This gives something for everyone, shows you are creative, and that you care by including something homemade.

Go buy a beautiful large bowl, put a 2liter,box of microwave popcorn, throw away cups, jar of peanuts, bag of Hershey's kisses, and either buy a Christmas movie or a gift card from a movie rental store close to their home. The popcorn box will be blue so get everything in either blue or white. Then when you put the clear wrap around it you can hang blue and white streamers with maybe snowflakes.Be sure to take the gift to them few days early so they can rent the movie for Christmas.Hope I helped....

One year I made a pasta basket for my in-laws. I put in a few different types of good dried pasta packages, a few different type good quality jarred pasta sauces, a bottle of good olive oil, a nice crusty loaf of Italian bread. My basket was a nice large ceramic pasta serving bowl with a very nice pasta serving spoon. They absolutely loved it!!!!!
