Cut down on Fats (especially Transfat and Saturated Fat), Eliminate Red Meat, and Fatty Cheeses. Eliminate High Calorie Foods (like soft drinks, desserts, etc). She should have 1 glass of red wine per day, 1 asprin per day and eat as many raw vegetables as possible. This is a good start. It's hard and takes discipline but she can do it!

There's lots of good websites out there with tons of information and recipes about a heart healthy diet and lifestyle. The American Heart Association has lots of stuff, and you can click around their website to link you to other good information. Here's some to get you started:

My fiance had a heart attack and had two stents put in his arteries to help the blockage. That was over two years ago. He reguarly eats Salmon (very heart healthy) and also Turkey burgers. No longer eats Hamburger.

Normally the hospital or doctor will recommend a diet prior to being discharged. Hope she has a speedy, successful recovery.
