Fruit snacks, fresh fruit, green tea...that's what my afternoon "power snack" usually consists of.
Good luck!!!
P.S. I drink one cup of coffee in the morning and one in the afternoon...my doc doesn't have a problem with it.

Mostly all foods contain calories, ergo, energy. If you are avoiding meat, then you need to compensate by eating additional foods with protein. Legumes (beans), protein additives, and various other foods rich in protein would do the trick. Eggs are another wonderful substitute, a few in the morning will do the trick. Also milk. You will go through a transition period of maybe a few weeks, so "things" may get rough. Try not to grab too many snacks lacking in nutritional content to satisfy your hunger pangs (keep plenty of carrot sticks handy). For lunch, you might try a "big" salad with maybe ranch dressing. For dinner, another big salad with maybe some brown rice and other raw vegatables.
You may end up getting the shakes. Try drinking OJ when that happens and avoid the candy. There are thousands of books out there to guide you, but the basics are pretty simple... keep the protein up, the cholesterol down, avoid sugary/fatty foods. You'll even see a blurb in there somewhere to make sure you drink plenty of water. Good luck.

Energy comes from three major sources:
Sugars, carbohydrates and fat.
They are quick burning, medium burning and slow burning respectively. A good meal will contain correct portions of all these things to carry you through to your next meal without a dip in energy or blood sugar.
Caffeine is a stimulant and is not actually an energy source. It just stimulates your body to use what energy it's got (sugars, carbs and fats) faster.
"Energy from meat" implies meat's got a special kind of energy that nothing else has, which is untrue. All the "energy" you get from meat is the same energy you can get from other sources. Protein is what meat is very high in but it not actually an energy source but more of a building block to replenish and build muscle tissue.
Something easy (but not the best) to tide you over would be I a low-salt trail mix, one with nuts (fats), oats (carbohydrates), dried fruit (sugar) and maybe a few chocolate bits (fats and sugar) mixed in. You'll still need fiber, vitamins and minerals that you can get from fresh veggies, legumes and grains. A balanced vegetarian diet will take care of your energy needs without meat.

Flesh:Protein energy is long term. Replacing it with legumes, nuts, cheese will provide it for you.
Quick energy is gotten from Fruit, & other Carbs like Rice Patatoes, Corn.
To keep that blood sugar up, small meals eaten at regular intervals..2 to 3 hours apart will do it. Caffeine & over sugar products add spikes very high to very low to energy but are short lived & then you feel worse. The key is balance.

Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren (renowned organic vegan raw foodist) asserts that, as long as you are getting fresh organic greens every day, you won't have to worry about anything you were missing from meat, including protein. I've found it the healthiest way to eat, and have read that this way of eating gives your body what it needs to fight off even very agressive cancer!

Protein bars that you get at healthfood stores will give you energy. My husband and I are just now trying a low fat mostly veggies diet and I need protein for low blood sugar. I'm taking protein bars to work to snack on.
