LOL I thought I was the only one out there!! I think it has more to do with the procedure of making our veggie meals. You can't just go out grab a cow and slice of a limb ~shudder~ It's more involved! Quorn and Tofu don't grow in the ground!! I'd rather pay double than be a meat eater though YUK!
I have to buy meat for my partner and it isn't that cheap either!!

Being a veggie is very cheap., just ask millions of people near-asia !
Buying pre-prepared veggie meals is dear, yes. Unfortunately the statistics show that veggies tend to be in the A-B class so, on average, have more money to spend on food. The marketers know this.
This comes from the fact that veggies are generally in better than average jobs because they are more intelligent.
Proof, if ever it were needed, that a veggie lifestyle is good for you.
All proven fact.
I would also guess that is dearer to make things like Quorn than slaughter a cow. Because, as we know, everything about a cow is used for something or other thus reducing the cost model for meat.

Any niche market will attract a higher price. If 95% of what shops serve is meat bases, and they have to buy in vegetarian options they aren't going to get the same bulk discounts. There isn't a lot of demand for soya beans, so they are going to cost more than some meat products.
Not all vegetarian food is more expensive. You could always go to your greengrocer and buy the raw ingredients.

Vegetarian food is normally much cheaper than meat. If you're finding it more expensive I can only assume you're living off processed food like veggie sausages? If so start buying dried beans and lentils instead which are less than a pound per pack here in UK, and they last for weeks. Get some good cookbooks and learn how to put together meals from scratch which are much healthier and cheaper.

Well that is so if you are living off the overly processed meat substitutes, but not otherwise.
I find living as a vegetarian far cheaper than eating meat. Instead of buying the meat-substitutes, I buy the soy beans, nuts & vegies & cook my own food.
Is it fair? No, not really. I think it is reflective of production cost & demand. I think you have capitalism to blame for that one. i disagree with the values of capitalism because it means money is worth more than everything else.
However, I think if you are comparing a box of say, processed meat samosas and a box of processed vegetable samosas they will be of comparable price. So it's possible you are paying for the processing, not the veg.

I do not come from the most wealthy of families but where not poor. I find it hard at times to get all the vegetarian foods I need becuase yes it is expensive. But its like that with any healthy foods. Go to the store and buy 3 apples and its like $5. The other day my mother and I went to the grocery store and bought some fresh broccoli cauliflower zucini apples 2 onions spanich and a few other small things and it was like $35.

i surely took a calculator and figured it out one time, it surely prices me a lot less money to bypass finding out to purchase and purchase a gaggle of end result, greens, and entire grains then it did to purchase processed foodstuff and meat. For the cost i'd might want to pay to purchase a small kit of fowl breasts i will get a respectable sized block of tofu which i will make countless foodstuff from. one element it truly is extra severe priced is that if i purchase frozen dinners (which i do not do this commonly). the established fee of a vegan television dinner at my food market is about 5 or 6 money, while something else of the television dinners are some money more less costly. (of direction in case you seem on the component record those more less costly products contain a good number of unfamiliar and nasty sounding elements. on the vegan frozen dinners, you could a minimum of diagnosis and understand what each and every of the elements surely are.) i surely delight in taking the time to study the labels on issues and that i do not see it as a difficulty in any respect. It makes me extra attentive to what i'm ingesting. eating places are a difficulty for me a minimum of. each and every position round were I stay hardly has any dishes that do not contain meat or cheese. so a techniques as money smart, the cost is ideal: ordering a salad is way less severe priced then ordering a steak. yet their salads commonly do not style very reliable. it really is a lot extra uncomplicated for me to stay abode and make my personal salad which tastes 100 circumstances extra useful.

I would rather pay extra than eat meat!
However, I do agree with the other answers. A vegetarian diet should be cheaper than a meat-based one. I was shocked (*) the other day, standing in a queue at a supermarket, and the trolley in front of me was stacked shoulder high with meat & meat products. The bill? Well over £100!
(* "shocked" - Gosh, hope I don't sound like our vulpine friend!!)

I don't find that at all! Veggie meals in restaurants are always a bit cheaper. A pack of quorn fillets is much cheaper than "good quality" steak or salmon. Plus we wouldn't use as much quorn or tofu in volume in our meals as a meat eater, who would often revolve the meal around their meat. Our meals are made up less from the expensive stuff, and more from the cheaper stuff like veggies, pasta or rice.

It doesn't have to be expensive if you like to cook. Fruits and vegetables generally aren't very expensive. Neither is tofu nor beans which are good protein equivalents to meat. A bag of store brand brown rice generally runs around $.79.
