It depends on my mood. Sometimes I want a steak, chips and peas, a fry up, fish and chips, sometimes I want a Chinese dim sum collection or a Thai takeout, sometimes baked potatoes, sushi, pasta, roast dinner....I have no overall preference and am open to food from anywhere as long as it tastes good.

I'm perplexed by this question. Any restaurant in England is an English restaurant. And you contrast a 'nice steak' with 'foreign food' as if you know for a fact that all restaurant steaks come from English cows! How do you know it isn't beef from Argentina?
The key thing about food is surely not nationality? I love the diversity, variety, and sheer range of food that is available to us nowadays. A blue steak, a vindaloo curry, fish 'n chips, and a good savoury pasta: all these are attractive for me, depending on the mood and the time.

Well, as a Texan, steak at an English restaurant would be foreign food. But steak is great (III Forks or Paul's Porterhouse in Dallas).

In England I would definitely go for foreign food. Szechuan Chinese or a good Bengali restaurant. I can cook these foods myself but it's nice to be pampered. I prefer to cook my own steak and get it just like I want it.

The full range of English cuisine is now generally acknowledged to be much better than French cuisine. Go English, but be more adventurous than a steak.

foreign food, steak is too bland, anyone can make it, it's better to differ. Most people like Italian food or Chinese food.

I like sticking to what I know, but I also like trying new things. So, I'd go with the foreign food.
