To be honest I don't know what opposites means. I just love both of them and have at least one apple and 2 oranges a day. Does that say something about me I wonder?

The saying is "That's like comparing apples to oranges" and it means you cannot compare because they are 2 very different things. For example...lets say you ask "What is better tasting, pasta or carrots?" They cant be compared because they are not even related. That is why people say "Thats like comparing apples to oranges"

apples and oranges are NOT opposites. However, "comparing apples and oranges" means talking about 2 different things.

If an orange poisons you, then sticking an apple up your rear will infallibly cure you. If an apple poisons you, then you have to rub an orange vigorously on your private parts!
For an organic nuclear explosion, bring an apple and orange into collision over your head! (If no explosion, then you haven't done it hard enough!)
