Prodromal stage (before the rash appears)

Pain, burning, tickling, tingling, or numbness develops in the area around the affected nerves several days before a rash begins. The discomfort occurs on a single side of the body, commonly on the chest or back, but it may occur on the abdomen, head, face, neck, or one arm or leg.
Flu-like symptoms (usually without a fever), such as chills, stomachache, or diarrhea, may develop just before or along with the start of the rash.
Swelling and tenderness of the lymph nodes may occur.
Active stage (rash and blisters appear)

No don't get rid of your penis. I have herpes and have had it for over 20 years. It is painful but they do have medication to clear it up quickly. Give it about a week and you should be feeling better. When I first got herpes in full break out, I felt swollen in the area and very itchy. My lymph nodes swell up. When I had the full break out, it was painful. Grit your teeth. Now, these days, at the first symptoms, I take medication and I don't get a full break out. It is nothing to be worried about. It is not the end of the world. By the way, I have never infected anyone else. I am really careful.

How do you know you have it if you have not broken out with it? That does not make sense. That is how a doctor diagnoses it, by seeing it on your genitals. And if you do get it, yes you will want to cut it off.

Duh, there are medicines to alleviate the pain from herpes and lessen the outbreak of sores. This is much more effective than surgical removal.
