No, there are only theories.

EDIT: Don't listen to the other posts. Those are not definite facts. We can only theorize where it came from. Some factions even theorize that the government created AIDS.

This is the only virus on the planet that posses many characteristics of other combines viruses, also in the hardest hit area's of the world HIV is spreading faster and infecting more then other more contagious diseases, hepatitis, gonorrhea, etc. Which in the time frame of first discovery and rate of infection it is impossible to infect that many people unless mass infections took place. The fact is that in the 1950 there was discussion form world leaders how to handle population control and there was heavy research into creating opportunistic pathogens for Target infections. This is pure fact. Look at the way HIV around the world is spreading and you tell me if it makes sense. In sub Africa 2/3 have HIV. That means that at one point people where having unprotected anal sex or iv drug use with 100 different people per day to get to the rate of infection that exist today. hm mm. do the research , enlighten yourself. Cancer and many diseases can be 100% cured with today's technology and research, but think if they found cures, how much $$ would be lost from drug companies and the health care industry as a whole. Also what would happen with the worlds population? it would ex plod out of control leading to economic strain, resource depletion and increased violence. Look beyond the news and do your own research, Open your mind. And no, it did nto come from a monkey, that was an old theory, but no monkey was ever found that had a similar linked virus to hiv, no original carrier found.

This question about the origins of the HIV virus has been asked (and answered 100 times) ! But since education about HIV/AIDS is important today, here my Best Answer:

Two species of HIV infect humans: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is thought to have originated in southern Cameroon after jumping from wild chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes troglodytes) to humans during the twentieth century. HIV-2 may have originated from the Sooty Mangabey (Cercocebus atys), an Old World monkey of Guinea-Bissau, Gabon, and Cameroon. HIV-1 is the most virulent. It is easily transmitted and is the cause of the majority of HIV infections globally. HIV-2 is less transmittable and is largely confined to West Africa.
