I quit smoking about 10 months ago and it has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I highly recommend it. Yes, the first few weeks are the hardest, but I promise that it does get easier. Imagine going through a whole day, week, month without once thinking about wanting a cigarette. I thought I would always need to smoke, but that's not true. There really is a light at the end of the tunnel. I HIGHLY suggest checking out a website called www.whyquit.com. Not only does it contain the most real & honest information about nicotine addiction, it also has the most amazing support group that you can join just after 3 days of no nicotine. You'll learn everything you have ever needed to know about nicotine addiction, and trust me, the more you know, the easier it will be. You owe it to yourself to see what the real you feels like without constantly being full of smoke. Good Luck & you can do it!

Everyone always says the gum the patch the lozenge but you know as simple as it may seem all it really takes is self control. Smoking is one of the hardest habits to quit but if you are serious about it you CAN do it and all it takes is you. I suggest cutting down a lot to start like never smoke a whole cigarette at a time. Go down to just taking a couple drags when you really want one. Eventually it will make you sick when you take those couple of drags and that will help your brain to associate smoking with something negative. I know its hard but you can do it!

Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It's just so easy to start thinking that just one won't hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don't have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here's a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It's not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something', which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.

Oh my god! I had a heavy smoker friend. She just decided to quit and much to everyone's surprise, she stopped smoking from the very moment.
I am proud of her. so I suggest it to you, do not buy cigarettes and just decide that you won't smoke it, and do somethings else like drinking water whenever you felt like smoking

GOOD LUCK

tell someone you are close to and really trust (that is not a smoker)...tell them that you really want to quit...and every time you are tempted you can think about them or talk to them about it...looking at pictures of what smoking could do to you might help (the bad pics..like lung cancer and stuff) :P...don't be in reach of cigarretes...don't hang out with people that smoke...excerise to get your mind off it...drink water or chew gum
