Can High Blood Pressure have something to do with being tense all the time? Sometimes I'll notice that my teeth are tight together, for no real major reason or my hands. It runs on one side of the family. I know I need to chill more sometimes:-) Kind of like a sideeffect?

Okay here's some help with a bunch of confusing answers. yes. stress and anxiety are symptoms you feel and it does give you a clue that something is amiss. However, high blood pressure is generally caused by two things, genetics and arteriosclerosis or hardening of the arteries. Yep, the build up of plaque. Now on the genetic side, You like me are probably a type A personality, a bit of a perfectionist at heart and when living in an imperfect world we tend to get aggravated by the small things, while there are medications to change our blood pressure and our cholesterol levels, we can start by eating healthy. That means more protein, less carbs, fat and salt as well as smaller amounts and if you like, drink one glass of red wine with dinner. Secondly, some physical conditioning, get up an hour earlier and put on a small backpack and start walking. walk as quick and as long as you can. Do this every day increasing the distance, speed and weight in your backpack, you will notice a tremendous change in your life. Finally if all has failed and you still feel uptight, then its time to visit your internist, however focus on a beta blocker not just for blood pressure but more for anxiety and to chill you out. a second option would be paxil. Both of these drugs are generic and available at Walmart for $4 a month. Don't be a gunea pig for your Dr. and start taking a handful of pills a day. The side effects will drive you crazy and will bankrupt you. Anyway these few changes in Lifestyle should take care of your problem. If your doctor is bright, he or she will confirm everything I just told you. Good luck on you new life!

Hypertension does not mean 'very tense' and indeed 'tension' or stress is not linked to the disorder of an elevated blood pressure (BP) although it is true that being tense may increase the BP a little. It is also true that some people become tense enough in the physician's office to false elevate BP but this is certainly not the disorder of BP. Dysfunction in the arterial system begins probably at least a decade before the BP is found to be elevated and I treat based upon home not office BP readings with the goal being about 110/060 1st thing in the morning.

Well actually, the side effect of stress, which can cause high blood pressure, would be the teeth or hand clenching. So if you are under alot of stress all the time, then you probably should have your blood pressure checked. That is what caused mine I believe. I always had perfect blood pressure, and as the years went on and things got tougher, I guess I couldn't handle it as much. This can be a serious issue. So don't delay. That is why they call this the silent killer. Get checked to be on the safe side.

There's many side effects of having high blood pressure. My mum is 38 and she suffers from high blood pressure. It can cause strokes, and blurred vision, headaches and fits. It's good that he has some tablet for it though, because if it became worse he could be at risk of getting cardiovascular disease like angina, which can cause him to have a heart attack or stroke.

tension can cause high blood pressure.
so i would find out what is causing the tension and remove it and have your blood pressure checked regularly.
and watch your weight and diet continualisy.
you can practice [chilling] on your own. i know it is very hard sometimes to [chill out]!!
but you definately need to reduce your stress level.
what i do when i get stressed out i turn my stress into a joke.
and make them laugh.

Yes, teeth clenching is anxiety, tension. My advice and it's simple is to work out. Run or lift weights lightly, it will lower blood pressure. Teeth thing is not good, you're too on edge, chill out man life is good.
