how many days does it take to get the results? (its not for me, its for someone in the story that i am writing)

There's nothing wrong with admitting you took an HIV test - it's actually a very responsible thing to do and every sexually active person should take one every 6 months.
The result turn around depends on where you had it done. Did your friend ask when the results would be back? It's usually at least 48 hours. If your friend is that worried, he should call his doctor or the clinic and follow up.

depending on how you get your test. at a normal clinic 5 business days, they have to draw blood send it to a lab and wait for the results. Keep in mind they will not tell you answers over the phone, you have to go back into the clinic

Generally about 2 weeks. Someone could get a rapid test and get results in minutes, too.

depends on where you go. Some places say they give results in 24 hours. it varies with the medical provider.
always say, if there is doubt get tested. especailly if a person is not using protection.
