High blood pressure can lead to damage to the small blood vessels within the kidneys. The results of this is that the kidneys are less efficient at removing waste products from the blood. Doctors can test for this by measuring the creatanine level in your blood, if this is higher than normal it could mean that your kidneys aren't as efficient at getting waste products out of your body. This can lead to too much fluid in your body which in turn results in higher blood pressures.

Absolutely. Damage to the blood vessels in the kidney can lead to kidney failure. High blood pressure is a major risk factor for end-stage kidney disease.
