Hawaii is always a popular choice, and fun! You can throw sand on the floor and vacumm it later, give out luaus (flower necklaces), wear skirts, shorts, flip flops, flowers in your hair and make colorful martinis served in tropical cups with small paper umbrellas in them. Guys can wear floral shirts also, and be sure to put music that is kind of tropical-lounge. have fun!

I am in a dinner group and we've been together for ten years. Our dinner theme's are not always food oriented, but they've all been a blast. Here are some that we have done.
Fairy Tales
Survivor
Pirates of the Caribbean
Medieval
TV Shows
Vintner
Iron Chef
Tiki Party
Day of the Dead
Arabian Knights (actually we're doing that one this year)
White Trash
Fad Diet
Pagan
Irish Pub
Luau
Casino
Country and Western
Family Traditions
and that is on top of all of the ethnic themes we have done.
Other ideas
Mafia
Pick a decade (20's,30's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's,)
Speakeasy
Good luck and have fun!

I love the movie star theme! You could even do a red carpet thing or Oscar party. Everyone could dress up!
If it's a winter or holiday party, you could do a winter wonderland theme. Everything white and silver. Lots of paper snowflakes and snow all over!
Have fun!!

Alice in Wonderland would be a wicked cool party theme.
I would definitely have a Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Serve tiny cakes, tea. Everyone has to wear a weird hat.
Play croquet.

I had a "shipwrecked" party once, and it was so much fun! The invitations were "S.O.S -- stranded. Please help" and gave the details.
The decorations were a sand pit, some palm trees and other luau sort of things outside, a bonfire, and at the end, we had fireworks (as flares for help, see?) We even took a refrigerator box and painted it to look like a ship that had sunk, complete with a hole in the front!!
It was a hoot, and with the bonfire and fireworks, there was plenty for the guests to do without getting bored!

I have thrown 2 different Luau's with really great results. One i did the cooking for and the other I had catered, Everyone had a great time and depending on when and where and the group your having you can play games and have everything themed to go along with it. We even had a ugliest Hawaiian shirt contest, Can be great fun

There's a bunch of themes!
Fairyland
Chinese Celebration (think red lanterns and such)
Luau
Zodiac
Toga (my favorite...LOL)
Sandra Lee on Food Network does a bunch of themed parties...I would look at some of her ideas for both themes and tablescapes.
